are stainless steel cone filters any good performance wise compared to the typical cotton (k&n) style cone filter? they claim to be better from manufacturers but wanted peoples opinions?

anyone have experience with 'chrome intakes' filters (these are on ebay)? should i get a k&n instead? i have a weapon R also, but as stated in other threads, it just looks like foam. we don't have autozone here, but we got checker... their filter section looks like a tornado went through it and i couldn't find the correct size. apparently they are all 'universal'??? is the k&n that much better? i am not hearing any difference in teh sound of my car.

i don't know much about K&N's but i got an AEM dryflow filter and it's great. one thing i like about it is that it doesn't require oil like K&N filters do.

The thing that's bringing up these filters now is the fact that K&N's use oil. That oil can get into the engine or at least on the MAF.
My MAF was desrceened and got a hell of a lot of oil build-up on the wires until it failed, but it's only $130 part and a DIY for just about anybody

no better than the others. there is great debate over which filter is better. I have used K&N, AEM, Ractive, and Specter. fact is they have all done the same job for me, the difference in flow is minimal between them, many people just prefere on brand over another. if 1/16 of a horsepower gain difference between 2 filters is a major concern then I would say K&N because they have a very reliable history.

ideally... unless you have a really good performance engine... you probably won't be able to tell the difference.

For filtering, nothing beats the paper filter. Wire mesh is the worst for filtering.
