Anyone replaced their 3400 with a 3.9 out of an Impala or G6? 240 HP / 245 TQ from a 60* V6. I would it think itshould be a straight forward swap, but I've been wrong before...

anything can be done, you sould go over to 60degreev6, some cavi guys have been working on it, off hand i know the tb is one thing to over come, along with the wiring, obiously, crank sensor too.......
personally, if you don't have fabrications skills and quite a bit of mechanical experience, it is gonna be a lot cheaper for you to build the 3400.......

^^ True that.
I would think it would take a little bit a fab work to get it done, the 3900 was never offered in an "N" body. The G6 is not an "N"
I'm sure it can fit in the bay, and can be done, but probably cheaper to biuld the 3400 ;)

You also need to lock out the VVT, a few guys figured it out but it seems too complicated to me. I would be afraid of it.

^ not in the 3.9 its a new engine. that 3.9 is a pretty nice engine, but i've never drove it in the impala. i have drove it in the equnox sport tho it was pretty snappy

How much power is it going to make once you take away it's variable valve timing?
Other than being different, I don't see any advantage in swapping out the 3400 for any other engine. You could easily take the money you're going to use for the swap and build the 3400 to make more power than the swapped engine. Unless you feel like swapping to a 4 cylinder, which I doubt most of the V6 guys would do, there's nothing out there stock that will drop right in easy and has more potential than the 3400.

ecotec FTW, i am just way too far along in my buildup to change from 3400 to ecotec, but if i was starting from ground zero again.....

There is a guy on 60*v6 who swapped a 3500 into a beretta. He is making like 330 hp N/a with a cam, port work and headers plus supporting mod. It is pretty impressive. He spun a bearing in it recently though. I have not seen that kind of power out of an N/a 3400. He really has the tune dialed in though. Not sure what the difference is but there obviously is one.

That's what I'm sayin. But like I mentioned, there's not a lot of people out there that would want to swap their big engine for a smaller one, even if the small engine was lighter, more fuel efficient and has way more power potential. At least you are putting money into your 3400 instead of thinking of the next greatest/most difficult engine swap just cuz it'll be bigger and more powerful than a stock 3400.

Its a 3500 cavalier with 275 whp. The 3900 is not a gas mileage engine so please be aware of that, especially once you remove the VVT function. TCE made some bearing spacers to fit the older style cams but we aren't sure yet on the cam position sensor working for SFI yet either.
Swap the ECM, TCM, Trans, and engine and it may be a little easier to deal with.

Drive an actual fast car that can handle well and then come back and tell me how great the G6 was :p

Not even that. Drive a 3.6 automatic G6. It will show that 3900 who's boss.
