gauging interest in headers

ok so basically my cat is crapped out from the coolant that leaked into cylinder 1......well anyways i think if im gonna get another cat i might as well just get some tubes!

so anyways my questsions are, if i were to get the raw headers and wrap in exhaust rap and also spray with that header heat coat paint (rattle can), would that be as efficient as the ceramic coat? or would i still get heat soak?

the color or shine of the headers do not bother my for i want them to be black.... so if i cant save a couple hundred and just get the raw and wrap them that would be great

OR should i just fork out the arm and wiener and go with the ceramic coat? would it be even more efficient with a header wrap on top of ceramic coat?

I know my ceramic coated setters get HOT!!..i can see the heat waves coming from the runners...might go wrap myself..been thinking

hmm then this brings up the question.... is header wrap superior than ceramic coat?

is it even worth getting the ceramic coat if your going to wrap?

I think the ceramic is worth it just for a corrosion resistance standpoint. Not to mention that they also coat the inside too.

mine are ceramic coated, wrapped and sprayed, and still get hot as hell.

Mine are ceramic coated. Nothing I've yet found stops a heat soak. The TOG header manufacturer said wrapping them would void the warranty. I think if you don't wrap them uniformly, there may be some uneven distribution of heat that could produce cracks. I compromised and loosely shielded them with 6 inch wide header wrap. Looks like crap, though.

Headers have a lot more surface area that dissipates heat than stock manifolds, so the net effect is more heat under the hood....stock manifolds also are heat-shielded very well.

I heard wrapping them can make them rust thru.

All the heat cycles they go thru and then it's a better chance of moisture forming between the header and the wrap. This is why it voids the warranty.

I do suggest getting the heat wrap and making a shield between the starter and the headers;)
