hey all, i did a search and found a few things, but i thought i would ask some of you automotive wizards out there as well

ok all this started this morning...i get in start the car, everything works fine except all the gauges, and the light to indicate what gear im in (you know the prnd123 between the gauges) so i figure hey a fuse has blown out...after looking over ALL my fuses they were all fine, so i tried to start the car again and it refuses to cooperate. after letting it sit for 10 mins i try again and it starts and dies after a few seconds...i call GM and they said the gauge thing sounds like the ignition sensor and the start and die thing is something to do with the security system.
sorry if there is an answer already on these boards and this is a rehash. but i have to move tomorrow and i cant get the car to the shop until tuesday so looking for anything i can do myself to fix the problem.

The start and die thing sounds like theft lock....
unhook the batt and wait a while.. then reconnect and try agen.

Not sure about the guage thing... kinda weird soundin... im sure if its a common alero thing some one has experanced it here.

was the guage cluster disconnected at all? Some dummy lights would have come on with all those problems, except if it was unplugged. (But this is just the dumb-ass answer. BLK... has the thought out one)

Maybe you are havin that passlock problem I had and some others had. If that's the case it has been discussed here.....http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?showtopic=3493
Do have any mods, gauge faces and such? Maybe a short...

yeah i had a prob with the security light coming on for a couple weeks then one day it just went away, and my trunk would open for no reason so i flipped the switch that makes you use the key to open it, then i flipped it back a few weeks later and it never opened by itself again.
