I had a sticking caliper, so i replaced it (decided to do both while i was at it)

driver's side, works like a champion. Passanger side was leaking slightly (caused me to fail my inspection)

so i returned it. they gave me one that the threads were pre-destroyed. I take that one back, i get sold a new bolt. that doesn't fix the problem. Take the caliper back again, get a brand new one, and the threads tear out before i can get it tight enough to stop the brake fluid from leaking out.

wtf. cheap ass parts. NOW i get to fight w/ the manager to try to return this one (w/o a box) so i can go somewhere else and get something that ISN'T total shit.

any suggestions?

my brother works there! but the new manager is "really strict" (read, total asshole) and my bro is on vacation for the next week. (leaves tomorrow morning)

Well Pep Boys owns Autozone so don't go there.

Advance Auto Parts is pretty good, but don't know if you have them by you. I buy all my OE parts there ;)

Don't allow them to treat you like that. I've always gotten my returns and exchanges done at auto parts stores. Start out nice but make a scene if you have to.

pepboys owns autozone??? how long ago this did happen? that might explain some of the same products on both stores.

Absolutely not. Pep boys is a 400 million dollar company, Autozone is a 8 billion dollar company. They both trade independently on the new york stock exchange.

yea but company value doesn't mean quality of product OR service necessarily. pep boys is way better in terms of quality, and i have some good friends who work there, so i like shopping there.
i hate autozone, it PALES in comparison in terms of the experience.

Napa rocks. I go to oreilly's if I can't get to a Napa. I would have some harsh words with that manager if he did not take it back then I would hit him over the head with the broken caliper to show him the only thing it is useful for.

Even the cheapest part should work fine in the beginning, even tho it won't last as long...

I got a caliper from autozone and its still working.. i think it came out to like.. 35 bucks or somethin' ... but now my driver side one is leaking slightly from the piston area-

if the caliper has any kind of warranty on it, they have to either replace it or give you your money back, if you have the reciept, then I dont see why they wouldn't refund you in full-

exactly... they give a 'lifetime' warranty on pretty much anything. I've even gotten cash refunds on used brake pads that I didnt' like.

Pep Boys Raybestos branded brake parts seem to be OK. I would not buy a rebuilt master cylinder or drum brake cylinder though (I'd buy OEM new or special oreder a Bendix one or something). But Raybestos rebuilt calipers and brake pads and hardware are really OK. One of the very few Pep Boys parts that I'd actually use. I would not even consider Autozone or Advance Auto rebuilt calipers or master cylinders.

they had one left, so before i threw a fit in the store, i gave it one last try. this one seems to be working much better.

got them bled and now i'm heading off to school for a few hours (w/ a different car) hope i don't see an leak marks under it when i get back.
