Both the upper and lower intake mainifolds are leaking. what gaskets do I need to fix em (besides the uim/lim :rolleyes2: ) ? what else should I do while I am goin in ? is the timing belt able to be changed while I am in there ? any upgrades I can/should do ? where should I get the parts ?

not sure as far as gaskets.. but the timing "belt" is actually a chain.. lol put ported and polished upper and lower intake manifolds on there!

Since your gonna be that far you should do the head gaskets while you at it. All you for the upper and lower intake would be gaskets, rtv, and coolant. I would get the torque specs for everything too. If you do the heads you will need head gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, and new head bolts.

our timing chains is good to like 150k miles if not maybe up to 200k miles.
get the redesigned metal felpro gaskets for the lower intake mani. It should be a kit w/ everything, upper, lower, valve cover at autozone. Called the felpro problem solver kit.

well I am at 135,000 so the timing chain is due. I use felpro gaskets when I can they are the best.

Napa has a complete gasket set for this job, its about $100 for 8 or so gaskets. I'd get that.

I wouldnt even attempt to do the heads or timing chain.
If you are going to pull the injectors, you need those gaskets.
I would do the O Ring where the distributor would go.

why ? would you not do it ? its not that hard of a job with the right tools and the place to do it. I would love to not have to do it but shelling out the $1000 + (just a guess) to get it done :rolleyes2: I don't think so

Yup. I had one of them O Rings go out on a Beretta. Theres a lot to tear down to get to that $1 O Ring. So I just do that when Im near it.

If you're going to change the timing chain, why not throw a new cam in there.
You can run a stage one cam with stock heads and a stock PCM, but the PCM you might want to upgrade ;)

You're looking around 30 to 50.
I would like to know where 1800 came from? Unless you're talking heads too. (note to 80's rock band  )
The cam set-up with the cam, rods, retainers, and Comp springs is $729 and the PCM is $149, comes in just under $900. Throwing in a doule roller chain does add $270.

I strongly reccomend Ben and his company WOTech.com. He got me all set up for my cam and since I was on a time crunch he helped me out with fast shipping. I will always buy my LA1 stuff through him. He even dealt with me over the phone and answered all my questions cause his site was down for the day and I needed to order it right away. Look into his stuff, he is a friendly and great person to deal with.
