Well the 3400 uses the ACDeclo PF47 filter, but I heard that the PF52 fits and gives an extra .5 quart.

An extra .5 quart, or one pint, of oil isn't going to hurt anything with the PF47 or the PF52, but the PF52 will require it due to it being bigger ;)

You wanna see a big oil fiter, look at the oil fiters on big rig trucks, they are HUGE!

HAHA funny you say. Ive been a diesel mechanic for just over a year now and its funny to see you need to look at caterpillar oil filter for semi's. They hold 1.5-2L of oil. and VolVo semi's have 3 oil filters that hold 1.2L each. LOL/

only a year? what do you specialize in? i've been a diesel technician for 12 yrs now.

and yes cars need maintenance, BUT they won't cheat on you, spend more time with their friends, or be very petite, take up 3/4 of the bed and want to hug you all night. (i need my room to sleep)

We do evrything besides a/c and engine rebuilds. I did Full services for 3 months go a guy now doing those and now i do alot.

Just look up the filter used on the 4.3 chevy astro. That motor takes the longer filter that everyone is talking about.

so what exactly does a bigger filter do besides hold more oil? is there a performance diff, or is it better for the engine or anything like that?

It is better for the engine for several reasons:

It has more filter media inside, which gives more oil flow, longer filter life and better protection.

It has more surface area on the outside, to help cool the oil more.

Increased oil capacity makes the oil last longer.

What was the K&N filter size code that accomplishes this same thing?

Nice bump... btw don't use fram guys... have a little more respect for your engine than some cardboard wrapped in rubber

^ that i will agree with, cut apart a fram filter, then cut apart a napa gold, you will be very disappointed with the results of the fram

A guy I work with has a Honda s2000 filter on his Grand Prix lol. Best OEM oil filter ever made... I need to talk to him about how he did it. He also has machined Acura TL wheels on it hahaha I'll snap a pic in the morning haha
