Whining pulleys

Its not the altenator.. its not the power steering pump.. we just replaced an idler pulley and the tensioner pulley.. water pump is brand new, doubt its the A/C compressor.. SERIOUSLY doubt its the crankshaft pulley..

I'm thinking its one of the idler pulleys I replaced about 6 months ago.. when this pulley was replaced the whining stopped.. but returned about a week later. I'm going to swap it out with the -old- one and see what happens.. it sounds exactly like im supercharged and I assure you- I'm not.

what would cause an altenator to whine?

Only common problem with wining is with the AC compressor. To tell for sure wait till you here the wining and then turn your AC on and see if it stops. If it stops it is the Clutches in the ac pulley.

well.. replaced the pulleys with newer ones.. to no avail (almost late for work because we got a ratchet stuck between the pulley and the panel right in front of it)

still whines.. tried turning the A/C on and off wondering if there would be any difference in the whine.. and it STILL whines on or off.

this is becoming frustrating- two new idler pulleys, water pump, power steering pump... how much is an A/C pulley, and how much of a pain in the ass is that to swap out?

one would think "lol that whine sounds cool" ... it doesnt.

quick update.. instead of paying 100 dollars for a new A/C clutch- how about just getting new bearings for around 15 bucks?

Ok.. I called Advance Auto Parts.. told them my situation.. they said I need to be present with the money to order the bearings.. my exact response: "please, for the love of all that is good and holy.. is there some way you can order this part for me" ... he goes "ok lemme see what I can do"

5 minutes later-

he takes my information.. orders the part.. tells me its going to arrive first thing in the morning- WHOOO ... now I have to take that idler pulley back to O'reillys to get the refund, go pick up that bearing from AAP, and tear apart the A/C clutch and re-do the bearings, which leads me to my next question.

How hard is it to dis-assemble the A/C clutch and pulley?

I got the A/C bearings today.. now heres the problem.

HOW THE HELL do you get the effin' pulley off of the A/C compressor.

NONE of these items worked.. I tried and none of them would fit.. And I think the guys up at the auto parts store are getting sick and tired of seeing me up there asking if I can borrow tools.

wtb a 2.2L Ecotec 5 speed.
