Ok, so I have come across a problem. My car's audio equipment is my hobby but my g/f has come to put a damper on that. She hates bass. But since I disconnected the rear deck, it sounds rather empty when I turn off the subs. So I am going to reinstall some speakers into the rear deck again. I just need help deciding on either putting in 6.5" Alpine SPX-17REF or some high quality 6x9's. I go for quality over anything so want something that will not distort too badly when I turn on the subs. And before anyone suggests it, getting a new g/f who likes bass isn't an option lol.

Just drop a small sub in the car!

Small 10" like Kicker or this http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-854

depends on what kinda subs your running. when my 2x10s get to a decent pound, they rattle my good 6x9s. just because they are right under them...

regardless of quality, w/ the 6x9s will probably distort a little from the sub(s)

Well right now I am running 2 12" Alpine type- R's in my trunk and love the way they sound. It's just I'm looking for a way to have that all round sound when the subs are off without the damper in quality while they are on. Don't really want to go down to 10's in the trunk. Will 6.5's vibrate as bad as the 6x9's if I put those in the rear deck?

I thought it was the fact that you have subs in the same enclosed area as the magnet of your rear deck speakers that caused the loss in quality, because the subwoofer wavers clashed with the 6x9's waves. Not the fact that the rear speakers vibrate, or cause the buzzing sound.

get the 6x9s... wire em up into a bypass switch on your dfash so you can turn em on when the subs off and bypass em when the subs on...

i don't even know if it's possible but work it out...

I like that idea ALOT. Will look into it. Only thing is if I bypass my 6x9's and have a 4 channel amp running to them. Would that send all the power to the front speakers? Or would it still treat the watts the same to each speaker regardless of if it bypasses some or not.
