hydro immersion

has anyone ever had parts hydro immersed?? how did it turn out? how pricy is this process? any pics?

im trying to get some of my interior pieces to match the osv interior but dont know if its worth it.

i didnt like the dash kit i got from ebay i purchased last year. they peeled off within 3 months. :(

I had these headlight covers done by VC Finishes. Oldsman has had some stuff done by them alomng with others. Don't ask Ionc2 for his opinion on Hydo.

Actually its real carbon fiber, it is just covering plastic rather than a solid piece.

Carbon fiber is hardly ever a solid piece, it's usually layered over fiberglass, as in hoods and fenders and such.

Hydro-immersion simply makes a "pattern," not the real thing. I was disappointed at ASS to find out that the guys who have the real OSV trim pieces, that they they're actually fake carbon fiber.

I just got a ballpark quote of $.40 per square inch through vcfinishes. You have to take in account the curves and such of all the interior pieces of course. But I would much rather do real carbon fiber.

Who posted a link of that carbon fiber forum not to long back? It looked like it had pretty good tutorials on it. That might be the way to go.... unless you arent confident in your skills. I personally dont think I would be up to "trying" something so expensive.

rolls of cf really aren't that expensive. check em out on ebay. $30 for a big roll of it. the hard part is that when you wrap things you're adding width to it, so you might have to shave off some of the trim piece in order to make things line up flush or fit when you go to reinstall them.

now, the osv cf kit consisted of the stereo console, the door handles, and the shift trim right?? or am i missing something else?

I believe you are correct. If your gonna do it ask Ion for a picture of his key chain so you can duplictae it, it is a must.

I read through a tutorial on racingcomposites.net (the one that the guy did with the audi pieces), and let me tell you, it is the BEST write up I have ever seen. It took me forever to read it, but it was full of information.

The guy who did it said that the whole project took him about 30 hours. And obviously it paid off.

If anyone was interested in pursuing this project, I highly suggest you sign up at that site and read through the projects that others have done. There is too much to mess up and its never a cheap mess up.
