Premium fuel will likely be a requirement. I don't want to speculate on what gains we might see, so please don't ask yet.

No concrete information on price yet, but 3800 applications are about $300, so I'd expect ours to be in the same ballpark. I'll keep this thread updated as I receive more information.[/b]

Once again, this was just a beta test, so it may be a while yet before these are offered for sale. But at least now ya'll know what you can expect.[/b]

Anyway ASE is nice and u get rid of the pesky speed limiter....

I can't add a whole lot to this, but I do know that once you go over 1 bar on a 1 bar map/maf sensor (which non turbo cars have) it will just pound the fuel in an almost constant stream. Not too good for precision.

ive heard that most ppl are VERY happy with this....oh yeah...it also sends info to the tranny for more pressure in the lines to make a firmer shift.

The power is equivelent to the ase but it's spread more evenly across the whole power band.
Where my ASE seems to lose on the low end, but has a nice bump from the mid to high end.
You should have a nice torque and hp gain from the bottom to the top with the DHP.

No, Alero calibrations are not officially done yet. I did forward Charles a list of VIN numbers and model years so he can sift through the year-to-year changes in the code. I haven't heard back from him in about 3 weeks, so I'll try to get a response from him this week.

That said, the gains from DHP and ASE are about the same. Both provide maybe 8HP or so (ASE's claims of 20HP are so ridiculous I don't even want to discuss it.). DHP manages shift firmness by throttle position and RPM; it varies throughout the entire range. DHP only commands firm shifts when you need them; I think it causes less wear on the transmission than ASE (and definitely better than the Autotrans Interceptor, which is garbage). I use stock shift points in my calibration because I think they work better, but the off-the-shelf cal will likely have shift points up about 200-300rpm over stock. The speed limiter is gone (of course), and the rev limiter is up to 6400rpm. The cooling fans for the radiator turn on at 187 degrees instead of 205, and they are on a 2-minute timer at key-off. DHP does a good job at smoothing out the power curve by adjusting fuel trims and timing advance through the entire rev range; ASE is more of a "canned" approach.
In short, driveability is vastly improved and the car pulls strong at any rpm, although the differences are most apparent over 4 grand. Another big plus the DHP is no down time (unlike ASE).

Diablo makes a chip for just about any car and truck...a couple of my friends' who drive diesel trucks...have them! Just try diablo.com. I was thinking about getting one for my alero...it's about $300. I'll get back to everyone on the website. But my boyfriend has one in his 03 mustang cobra and he likes it.

Also note -- especially you Canadians in Alberta -- you can go to an authorized Diablo dealer and get a custom tune done.

There is one in Red Deer complete with dyno and all to do the custom work and reasonably priced.

What about the DHP chip on PFYC for the GA? I know that the GA has a different final drive ratio, but will it work in an Alero?

If the chip is for the GA v-6 SE it will. If it is for the GAGT then it will not.

Also will you guys quit calling your controlers ECU's, they are PCM's then control both Transmission and engine.

ECU = Engine Control Unit
ECM = Engine control Module
TCM = Trans control Module

PCM = Powertrain Control Module. All alero's even the ones with manuals come with PCM's

well charles e-mailed me for my vin #, and usually they get back to me in a month or two, they are worlking on alot of the g/a cars from the ga forums, so i have just tryed to be patient as possible for now...it sux, but besides ase...and i guess diablo...no one is gonna help us unless you wanna spend 1300 bux for the new AEM stand alone system

Yo guys, Whoever who contacted these guys first really needs to follow through with things. This is taking forever, it never takes almost 2 years to get a stupid chip tested and on the market. I will call them today and ask what the deal is, unless someone else with decent knowledge on cars can do so?

Honestly, I think they've become disinterested in making us a chip. Good luck getting it made... you should go to grandamgt.com and grandamownersclub.com and try to encourage more GrandAm SE 3400 owners to contact them too. Our tune would be the same as GASE tune.

orion...mfuller was the one who started this and wanted all our vin #'s the last time this went around...which was last summer i think. but as nick has said...goin over the to the gagt boards...ive read some of the threads there, and i honestly believe that dhp must be that busy, cuz alot of ppl piss and moan over there about waiting to get things done. but i do know that dhp is actually on there forums over there, and have seen them respond...so maybe we need to get on there too.

well this is for someone willing to swap trannys................phantom505..on the gagt boards has a complete tuned pcm for a gagt..hes selling for under 300 i think, but the only way this will work is if you also drop in the gagt trans....so if you are dead set in not wanting to wait...which i dont blame ya...get the pcm from him, and then go get a gagt trans for a few hundred and kill 2 birds with one stone...you will have the better gears for our lighter cars, and the pcm.

just my thoughts

aleros and grand am SE..have the asme trans and gears...which are 3.05 the gagt has 3.29 gears...i have a gagt trans and was about to do this swap, but i have moved on to different plans now.

LOL. It probably got delayed for the GTO. A lot of Grand Prix owners have bought or are buying the GTO's. Even the big name GP tuners (Scott Cook).

I thought the DHP chip was going to be suited for the HP Turbo application. HP is selling the DHP chip with their kits so i'm guessing they already are. Plenty of guys off GAGT are getting this with their kits and jturkey who is doing the same HP setup as i will be is trying to get this for his car so i figured this was good.

there are 2 tunes..one is boost specific, the other is not. one way would be to ask mfuller if he had his tune saved by charles....mfuller....have you seen any of this lately...this was origianlly doing.

Ok I talked to jason at dhp and he said there plan is not to have it out until the end of the year and I did not ask why because its cool to know that they are thinkin of us and we are in there plans so thats very cool and if you want a custom tune it is only a couple hundred more to get. Which makes more sense to me to get since every car runs different and then you now your hp and torque so if you ask me thats priceless but if you dont live where they are or close to them than it makes more sense to get the tune that they sell to everyone rather than a custom tune.
So its just another waiting game.

I emailed c-ya-racing 10 times, and called 5 times over a 2 month period, and NEVER heard from them, so I said the hell with it and I have gone a different rout, I'll let you know the outcome when its done.

well heres the latest news....the 3 guys that run DHP also have fulltime jobs which i was unaware of, but in the next month Charles Beyer will become a fulltime employee, so this is good news in the fact that both Dave and Jason can get things going easier for tuning to take place, as soon as i hear more from Dave..i will let you all know.

update...im going in for a tune on april 24th, and what im doing is getting a tune done with cat back and cai only..this way they can save the specifics for people that dont have headers yet but want the tune, it will be the 349 bux as is the normal price, and i will also have time to discuss with charles when we could start getting some small groups together to get some tuning done, in the meantime i have asked if there would be room for a couple more peeps with the same setup im running, so as soon as he gets back to me with anykind of info on that, i will also post about that as well.

cant think of anything else off hand...so thas it for now

If you are doing the tuning in chicago I'd be willing to come that way if we get a mini-meet going. A tune would be nice considering they wont have a tune for cai, exhaust, headers.

alerosince99...that would be cool..i think they do have a tune from matts^ car, but im not sure if they saved the program, and i cant member if he has headers, but it will be nice for people that dont want to drop 650+ for headers for the time being, im also thinkin on going back after i put on my heads and intake later this summer

I'd love to get in on this, but I can't make the April 24th weekend... if there's a chance at moving this by a week or two that would be great. otherwise I guess I miss out.

I've got CAI, Borla Cat back, so I'd use the same tune. I've been dying for one of these chips for a LONG time.

I spoke to "Woddy" at dudesperformance.com about a ECU for the ALero and he told me that they do not have software for the Alero at this time. So I said ok and that they are a lot of people on Aleromod who would like to have one since they are so hard to come by.

I figured it was worth a shot.

what all is envolved in replacing a stock PCM w/ a DHP PCM? Do you just pop out stock and pop in DHP? or is there more envolved stuff one needs to do?

yea, basically, you'll also need the dealer to do a case learn i believe.... then you just send them your old pcm...

depends on what yr your car is? I finally had to send my original PCM to them to reprogram, we tried 2 different PCM's and one was in same serial number range, but had odd o2 sensor codes because of a change in sensor circuits on 03's.

and i wonder why mine cost $299? I was lucky that my old company covered all ups costs for me, or it would have ended costing a fortune!
