i use to be part of a forum for a previous car and there were some veterans that swore by adding atf one quart in ur oil for a thousand miles then draining and putting regular oil back in. i did it on my last car seemed to clean good my oil was black when i changed it. any reason this would harm our 3400 to do this?

thats just plain stupid to add tranny fluid to the oil. I never heard anyone do this. If your oil was black when you changed it.. Your oil is burnt, and should change it sooner before any harm/sludge is done to the engine.

do a search on it i guess it was very popular with mechanics. its suppose to have more cleaning agents than fully synthetic motor oils and clean very very well without doing any damage because its oil based. that was my first reaction to but if u search the web there is alot of info positive info on it and it worked great for me but with this being a 04 makes me nervous the newer cars get the more complicated and tricky they can be.

i've also heard of doing this, but have never actually done it, i would have done it if i didnt have to tear my engine down to the block.

Just use some Seafoam if you want to clean your motor out.

its worked amazing on my saturn i do use seafoam i like that too but the atf was no contest and i had the car for 2 years never had any mechanical issues. im assuming it would be ok to do.

my Friend had ran tranny fluid instead of oil for 4,000kms with no prob I was told it is a good cleaner as well
I would never try it myself even after my friend did it with his car with no problem. Here is the reason
tranny fluid is a hydraulic fluid and motor oil is a lubricant. While transmission fluid does have some lubricating properties, it is not enough to sustain an engine. Motor oil is an excellent lubricant, but not a good hydraulic fluid so it can not be used in a transmission.
I know for a fact you can add transmission fluid to a power steering unit and have no problems they both run on a hydraulic type system
long story short don't do it you may do more harm then good
