Speed sensor

My service engine soon light came on today, while the speedometer stopped working and the transmission was waiting long to shift. I took it to autozone and had them test it and it said there was vehicle speed sensor circuit condition.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this, how much it will cost for fix, where the sensor is located, and any ideas as to why it failed? Thanks

1. Locate your transmission (if you can't do this, then stop now*** ).
2. Locate a sensor with 2 purple wires coming out of it.
2a. On the manual transaxle, there will be 3 sensors. The VSS is the one mounted vertically directly next to one mounted horizontally on the rear left side of the transmission, looking down from the top.
