Hi,
I've seen a lot of newer cars lately that have side vents (http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2007/01/car_design_tren_1.html).

So in my ongoing mission to keep the Alero (2.4) cool, I thought I should ask and see if it anyboday has installed them or has any experience with them.

seems like everybody has them now (Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Ford, Chevy, ...)
The thing I'm wondering about is, are they worth it to keep our warm engines a little cooler?

really, I suppose if you did it right and had them professionally installed they wouldn't be all that bad

but the function wouldn't justify the cost of doing it right and the crappy stick on ones would be like putting a stick-on hood scoop or an exhaust tip.

really, I think they're tacky unless its a true performance car or a buick (grandma-mobile)

venting the fender in any location that's visible will do nothing to route air from the engine out lol. take a look at how the fender is made, pop your hood sometime, it wouldn't work. manufacturers put them in for looks, most of them are fake anyway.

you want to chill out your engine, use a vented hood

on some heavily modded cars they look slick. (AAS kit mostly since it has plenty of front "vents" ) but no a completely stock, it'd look goofy and outta place.

Black dog had them on his car. I almost bought them but couldnt afford them in the end. Someone on here ended up with them, but I am sure there are still pictures of how they looked somewhere on here if you search hard enough...

they look like crapola, and they are getting worse and worse with each passing model. now buicks have what, like 5 on each side? before you know it, they will be entirely down the front fender, like 19 on each side. they are useless and whats the point of useless crap on a car?

Buicks have 3 on each side for 6-cylinders, 4 for 8 cylinders.

ugh, as far as I know, the only F-body with vents is the 71 firebird formula.

I saw a civic the other day that had the 4 on each side from a buick, with a 10ft wing, it was like watching a giant shopping cart go by.

if you have the stick on ports any halfway car savy person will notice and laugh at you as you pass buy. nothing looks worse on a car than a stick on "performance" piece of plastic. if you have to have ported or louvered fenders aas has them for the alero.

The fact that they use them on a Ford Fuck-us should be reason enough not to put them on your Alero.

lol yeah i think those stick on ports are worse looking than anything else you can bolt on or stick on to your outside body

I got to drive next to a newer intrepid that had side vents and hood vents that were carbon fiber. That kid probably had $80 worth of autozone stick on vents. It rocked.

I would only go with actual vents on the fender. MAYBE.
