alright, so my father took my car to get a pack of cig's this morning, and he asked me if I knew my signal lights weren't working (I told him this months ago that they sometimes decide not to work). I said yeah maybe once in a while they decide not to work. Yesterday I tried that hazard light idea and they didn't even work. My dad thinks that my car's problems are all related (my gas guage goes up and down I never really know how much gas I have, my lights, he's also thinking the trac-off anti-brake thing.) And probably a few other things I can't think of right now. I decided to post up here think what you guys thought. He wants me to make an appointment with a mechanic to check it out and he said it might run me a few hundred bucks.. which is a huge setback for me. Any opinions?

unplug your neg battery terminal for like 10 minutes. then reconnect it and check. (maybe the cpu is screwing up?)

I'll try, I appreciate your input, anything I can try or you feel I should do is worth my time... especially when I can save a few bucks.

the hazard switch definitely needs to be replaced. as for the other things...I'm not sure.

the blinkers can be blamed on the hazzard switch... end of story. i just fixed mine after dealing with it forever... i can get you one from the junkyard here if you want... if its trac off, abs, and service vehicle soon... its in all forms of probability the hubs... sometimes the hubs go bad which in turn takes the ABS sensors with it... sometimes the hubs are fine but the sensor burns out... unfortunately, the sensor and hub are in one unit and aren't enterchangable. for a new hub you are looking at ~120$ double that for both sides... if you can hear and sort of noise in the front end like a whirring or grinding... try to figure out which side it's coming from.... then concentrate on replacing that side first... hopefully it's just one side that's bad... but it's a chronic problem so expect to have to deal with it sooner or later. also... i have done the hubs on my alero twice in it's life... and once on my moms alero. it's a job that you can do yourself if you have basic mechanical ability... like... if you know how to use a jack, ratchet and stuff. helps if you rent a hub puller but it can be done without one... as far as the gas gauge goes... you got me... never had to deal with it. and what's wrong with the lights?

well the hazard lights work usually as do my turn signals. but they do act up. I have a feeling its my hub sensor and my service engine light isnt on. How much would it be for a new hazard switch thing? I hope I don't need to put money into fixing it, which would be the money I would much rather use to buy more things for it instead haha.

hazard switch is like $8, it was recalled, go to the dealer and see if your VIN qualifies. mine doesn't for some reason although ALL aleros have this issue.

yeah the relay in the hazzard switch controls the blinkers too and it's not always a problem... just once in a while... i got my hazard switch for free from a junk yard... and there is a difference between "service engine soon" and "service vehicle soon"
