First off, will the third brake light off of a Grand Am fit on the Alero? it LOOKS the same??

Secondly, what is the legality of having a third brakelight that does a "knight Rider" type of thing??

Hey Kilroy,

I asked the same thing a while back. Yes the grand am light will fit. It's the same OEM part. I'm going to get and LED one off ebay shortly. When i do i'll post pics of the fitment.

hard to say how legal it is, I guess it depends on the cop. If I were you if you plan on doing something like that I would make a switch so you can switch it back and forth between the cycle to just solid light to cover your own butt.

I am curious to know why you would go to the trouble to do this. Cool effect, but it's only going to draw attention. Like Vtolds said, perhaps a switch between modes if you would like to use the light for show. Otherwise for practical reasons, I wouldn't bother... The Alero is not knight rider...:ninja:

I had my 65 led third brake light wired in to the turns and did the chaser it was a pain in the ass to wire. i made the circut board to do it. then I got a short and tore it out (it was in for 3 weeks) here is the schamatic I went off of.

just giving you a heads up. cool mod just a pain

NOTE: if you don't understand this drawing then research before you start building. I built the board on a 2" x 2" board so its small.

do you mind posting up the pin layouts for those chips? also, how many leds do you have hooked up to each output? this is all helpful information that i wouldn't mind seeing. do you have circuit maker or multisim? wouldn't mind putting together something in there to test it out. might be kind of cool to run the simulation before hand.

Ya, heaven forbid you want your act of braking to draw attention!! Kinda the exact reason I want to do it!!
