I know the Chevy Baretta came with a 5 speed and the 3100, since I know a lot of stuff from the 3100 fits onto the 3400 I was wondering if the tranny would work with a 3400?

I understand like mounts might be diff but welding is no biggie

As a simplified answer, most GM FWD trannies will physically bolt up to most any GM FWD engine. The exception is the quad 4 cylinder engine and isuzu built tranny. A google search, or even a search of this forum, on engine and/or transmission swaps will give you more information than you can possibly take in. As for a 3100/5-speed beretta, I think you are talking about the 3.1 MPFI/5-speed. I don't think they made a 3100/5-speed, but I'm not a beretta expert.

It's the programing you have to worry about along with the axle shafts

People do it all the time. Like I said, google search will return more than you can imagine.

Well, the 3100 NEVER came with a 5-speed. It's the old 3.1 that you're thinking of. But either way the transmissions will interchange just fine. The bolt patterns are the same on MOST of the FWD engines and even a couple RWD ones.

The programming is the easy part.

Honestly, for the easiest swap you'd be better off using a Getrag 287 / F23 transmission from a '00-'02 cavalier with the 2200. That's the same trans that comes in the 5-speed Alero, but with the V6 compatible bolt pattern.

See the thing is I was thinking about letting MMS do the swap and me being their test car. But I don't really know how reliable they are. I've only heard great stuff about there products but as for them actually installing, that something I haven't heard about.

I was going to get the shift nob and all that stuff that I can use to cut back the price from my friends Dads garage.. just cause I'm in high school and I'm pretty much broke.

It can be done, but at what cost?

Well... it's looking like it will be around 4,000 to have MMS do it.. which I consider... but I think I will have all the parts myself and just have them do the computer, installation, and testing....

TRANSMISSION
In the first week of July 2004 I swapped out the 4T60e automatic transmission for a Getrag 282 five speed manual transmission. I used a Spec stage 3 clutch. I reduced my weight by about 100lbs. I used the pre-1994 subframe peices and control arms so that I could get an extra torsion mount to control the torque on the engine. I had to swap the passenger and driver side hubs with each other so that the brake calipers faced forward and the FE7 swaybar fit properly. Only minimal electronic wiring was required. I had to cut the brake pedal in half (which was done after the picture was take) to give the proper spacing between the clutch and brake pedals. I added the springs and shocks at this time too.

He did a swap...

Yeah, but the swap is quite a bit different in a 3400 Alero versus an older J/L/N car with regard to the mounts, etc...
