Okay, So back in January I placed a Ractive Cone Filter at the end of my Intake Hose. I was told it was going to be just a Basic PLug and Play Install.
So I installed it. and the Sound was amazing... So I took it to the highway, And it couldn't even hit the governor. Which it usually had no problem doing.
I wasn't impressed.
I started it the next day and the Smoke was coming out black, usually meaning too much Fuel.
Now I'm looking at an Actual Intake meant specifically for the 2.4. I'm a little bit scared of it going by what it did last time. Since then, I'm sure my Cat is pissed at me, but I want to have it removed anyway.
So If I go with the Intake, is a new exhaust system a Requirement? Because I honestly cannot afford buying an Intake, let alone a whole new exhaust system.
Oh, and I'm at 130,000 kms.

So i'm assuming the last filter was just a POS?
or maybe meant for a v6 engine?
And If I cut out the Cat Coverter. Would it cause any Major Performance Issues? Such as Compression lost and Whatnot?

The filter shouldn't have caused anything like that to happen.
Conical filters aren't designed for specific applications, type of engine should not matter.
Removing the kitty only makes your car louder, smell bad, and piss off California. And it's illegal. It does nothing to improve performance.

That Ractive filter was most likely oiled and you were sucking the oil into the engine. You will have no issues with an intake. Cutting out the cat is stupid, it will gain 2hp at best and destroy the environment not to mention throwing codes.

yeah... stop trying to hit your governer. drive like a sane person and you'll be surprised how much it'll improve your mpg.

Hitting my governer IS driving like a Sane person. I'm still trying to find out how to remove it so I can drive like an idiot.

What sane country (besides European's) allow you to go beyond 100mph/160 KMph on public streets?
for better mpg drive at around a steady 60mph/95Kmph.

Rural Newfoundland in Canada. I'm living in the city now. but It was nothing to dodge down the highway at those speeds. Not many Police in the areas.
But those things Aren't condoned on this site. It's not about what I was doing, It's about the fact that Power was lost.
Thanks for helping guys.

Are you looking for improved MPG or PERFORMANCE(acceleration)?
Tune-up, a better breathing system, higher tire pressure, steady acceleration and constant 60 or so mph that will yeild the highest mpg possible.
Performance - too much to list.

Well, the Performance would be more of a bonus, I'm sick of running a Pure Stock motor. But If I can get a few more ponies and a few more MPG, I'll have it knocked.

like alerored siad, you were probably sucking oil into your engine. just use a AEM dryflow or something equivalent that doesn't have to be oiled and you should be good.
btw, i hope its TECNICALLY legal for u to drive that fast there, b\c i got killed on here for saying stuff like that not too long ago.
and for teh cat, don't bother. there was a thread on here showing that there is almost no performance gain, and the little there is is matched by a high flow cat. just easier to stay legal, yes it is illegal with no cat.
