speedometer back light and heating back light

the lights behind my speedometer and all gauges does not turn on same with the heating and the shift lights for drive and rivers all those back lights wont turn on what could be the problem? i checked all the fuses anyone know whats up? oh i also have a recently added a subwoofer could that be the problem. they also work though the gauges still work same with the heating and temp and everything

I had the same thing happen 2 days ago because I crossed 2 wires trying to solder a bulb in the car. It was a fuse on the passenger side that was fried. I think its the 10 amp fuse that is located in the "A" spot. Look in your service manual under "fuse" and under "passenger side" then look for the location of the "A" fuse.

Remember when checking your fuse that there are 3 places where you have fuses on an Alero, One on the Driver side, one on the passenger side (Both behind the cover where the door meets the dash) and one in the engine area.

i checked the fuses on the passenger and driver side they all seem okay but the lights are still not working. Could it be that one back light burnt out, and the lights are on a series circuit or something? just wondering i hate driving at night without the back lights

They are not in serial. That would be a dumb move from GM (but we all know it wouldn't have been the first one lol)

Did you try to wire something in your car and have possibly grounded a wire by mistake? That could have made a short big enough to screw the lighting, again, this happened to me and only the fuse burnt. I'd try to still change that 10 amp fuse in the passenger side and see what happens.

Also, I know some aleros have a problem with water getting in one of the fuse area, I cant remember if its the passenger one though.

yeah i did change it just incase i have that amp from the sub grounded. but if i were to unground it would it fix the problem or is it perminatly messed?

anyoen still have been driving with no gauge lights for a while?

i had the same problem for 2 months but 2 weeks ago i made a weird connection and i fix the problem but now the litlle dimmer swith is not working lol... :(

im thinking it might be a bad grounding from my amp that powers my sub cause the ground for some reason i made it quiet long... old thread i know but the problem is still on going

i don't think a bad amp ground would kill your lights... :huh: thats almost always the fuse on the top left of the passanger fuse panel.

unfortunately, it could also be a short in the system, so you'd have to take a voltmeter(with a continuity check) and trace wires... just follow the wiring diagrams for each light and several cases of beer.

you said you checked your fuse blocks (driver and passanger) did you check the one under the hood too?

I'd start with the center console and gauges, since there are a bunch of bulbs that are easy to find. and luckily, they are all powered by gray wires. so it'll make your life a little easier.

to find what your tracing, you can check my thread "short tracing" i just had a similar problem, that... kinda went a way on its own.

while i mention that, also try tightening the bolts on the clear plastic covers, on the fuse boxes. if one is loose, it might cause a short.
