Alrighty then, after a week or two of trying to get rid of the alero i just couldnt. And i have found a legal way to prove its not just an old mans car, autocross. My main question is, if i do suspention work ONLY, will the 2.4 be potent enough with an intake and muffler to pull the alero along competitivly or do i ahve to do some engine work to even dream of competing. It dosent seem like it would need it but i would just like to know.

all suspension, little engine. supercharger would help :)
by the way, autoxing really isn't a way to prove it ain't an old man's car, as most autoxers drive majorly slow pieces of shit, since you don't need a fast car to dodge cones.

Well i aint gonna get anywhere drag racing, and true but if i can learn to be good at it why not.

You don't need a single engine mod to run autocross. It all depends on what class you want to run in. Actually it would be a good idea to start with only suspension work, that way you can get used to driving the car at the limit without all kinds of power making it harder. Then as you get comfortable you can start adding more power a little at a time.

Just make sure you don't do too much work which throws you in a crazy class. My Alero would be in street mod because of the brake upgrade.

I like this plan! It sounds cheaper.

Yeah, i just read about that, so if i get struys, springs and tower braces m off the stock class list arnt i?
dont go too crazy with the suspension, ive heard air suspension is not allowed at some tracks

autocross with a 2.4 is fine. only thing with a 2.4 is the oil pan is not baffled and the oil can slosh around. make sure the oil is up to the full line before you race.

You can change your front sway bar, your struts (but not springs) and your filter element (but no intakes/cone filters!). You can also use DOT approved "R" compound tires.

Yeah, a friend of mine didn't do that with his Quad and it was ticking when he got done on the track!

So i have an intake and stuff so does that mean id be stuck in a higher class.

If you want to get away with a lil bit more power. Have a professional tuner that is competent with HPTuners dial in your engine to squeak out all it can. $$$$$$$
Also an idea to think about in suspension upgrades that are "OEM", is see what the differences in suspensions bits are betweeen a Grand AM SE model and GT model suspension. I know they have certain minor tweaks in them, and they would still be technically legal.

get working on a five speed swap, start gathering the parts. Probably better to just trade it in for a 5 speed Alero since your not to handy with cars

and why am i not? its not a matter of my skill its a matter of my money and what realistic, at this point dumping hundreds to amke an alero a 5 speed is not realistic nor smart when i could save that money and spend it on the car i really want. sorry i dont have the money to blow out my ass on a car that will hardly reach under the 12 sec mark.

Dont even start, you know as well as anyone that if you are on a almost non-exisiting budget and you want a decently fast car an alero isnt the way to go.

no insult or whatever just dont think you know alot about cars....and youve proved it saying I cant make a 12 second Alero

he didn't say you won't reach 12 secs, he said he doesn't have the money to blow on a car that will hardly reach under the 12 second mark..
show me an alero that has under a 12 second quarter mile.

Im sure it can be done, but with the same amount of money put into lets say a mustang and camaro youll be running alot faster. Its not a matter of how much you kow its how willing to are to blow your money on a car, unstead of saving it for something more important like school.

I gave you props for that....cause school IS number one...that I agree with you.

however sure, you put money into any car and it'll be quicker.
i bought my car for $2000, put $2500 into it. my $4500 can beat cars that come out of the factory costing $20,000+. it depends on what you want, YOUR car quick/fun to drive, or blow money and get a "cool" car that everyone else thinks is cool, but you just have to be part of the crowd.

Crazy ran 12.80 spinning the tires when he had the s/c :rolleyes2:
Yeah it's not possible to make an Alero fast. I guess my mid 14 second Alero doesn't exist, I guess BJ's Alero doesn't exist either, he'll be running in the 12's if not faster when he's done :rolleyes2:
Let's see here:
Option 1:
Alero with blown engine less than $1,000
New motor from Junkyard $750
Rebuild with new top end kit, pistons etc. $6,000 at most
4t65 tranny rebuilt $1,500 to $2,000
Total is less than $10,000 ($15K with labor)
Option 2:
Buy a fast car that will run 12's with NO mods
Corvette Z06 $35,000 used if your lucky
early 90's Eclispe GSX or Talon TSI, $15,000 in piss poor shape but running (sorry I think they run 13's with no mods)
WRX STi $35,000 new, $20,000 used if your lucky
New Mustang, needs mods to get out of the high 13's but is still around the $40K mark for a respectable one
The new Camaro is rumored to run in the 11's, but that model is over $50K
Hey the new Skyline is comming to America in July, it runs 11's and is over $75K
Of couse you buy one of these and you'll cry that it's not fast enough

dont forget about spy... not alero but same thing. grand am. 2.4L. just depends on how much time and money you want to spend on the things as to how fast you want to go.

Nice! How come he isn't listed on the quarter mile times thread?
I was just saying "show me one that's under 12" as an intermediate response for TheMeaningOfLife and DOHC_tuner who were talking about Aleros not reaching under 12. I know any car can get there.

I never said aleros cant reach under 12's....Im actually on my way to doing that...so im on the Aleros side:p But since im not going boost anymore I wont hit under 12 anytime soon. I just want to break in the motor first and get a better turbo (GARRET).. so soon I will post videos when I do get there. But aleros are fast and I love them
