Depends what you are looking for.
First of all, I believe they ARE worth the money. The are washable fabric, and guaranteed for longer than your car will last. They also breath much better than a disposable paper filter. More air = more power.
I personally started with a K&N drop-in replacement. I replaced my stock filter in the air box. You MIGHT see a few HP from this, but what you WILL notice is the sound. It'll be a little louder.
Right now I have a K&N oval cone WAI on mine. I basically took out the air box, measured the area, got the biggest oval cone that would fit, and stuck it right on where the air box was. I may have gotten 5 or so HP from that. Again, sound is what you notice.
Now if you went with a CAI with a K&N cone, you would see the biggest gains, 7-10 HP I think is what others have said.
On a side note, Fram now makes a reuseable fabric filter. Now sure what all applications they have, but they should be selling at least the drop-in replacement. You could try that first, if you want. Otherwise, I have a K&N drop-in that I don't use any more. I'd sell it to ya for $20 plus shipping. I'll even clean it up real good and oil it before I send it.

I'd be interested in the drop-in replacement. I think they cost about $80 up here. do you know the shipping costs to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

3.4, what is the part # for your filter. i've been looking for a cone-style filter w/ a 3 1/2" opening but i can't find one.

Part # for the oval cone is RC-5040. That's the K&N number. You will also have to make something to hold the filter up straight (so it doesn't sag down). I just used a piece of aluminum and bent it, then drilled a hole to fit over the screw that the airbox was on.

there will be a slight increse in airflow into the motor, thus more power, however you wont notice a big increase in induction noise unless you cut/modify your airbox, or like i did yank out your tuner tube.. this will help.
I assume you have the 3.4... i beleave that and the eco is a differnt filter? some one correct me if im wrong...
Up here the list price at Lordco was like 130 soemthing... i got it for about 70 lol... i love my discount, and with that and a low backpressure muff i have noticed that on the highway it seems to use a lil less fuel.. annother + of a free flowing intake and exhaust, and a slight HP increase.

its a tube that keeps your intake quiet, to get to it pull off your drivers side tire, and remove the mud covers on the front side(theres a couple tabs, and few bolts you have to take out). also remove the headlight and you will be able to see it and get at one of the 3 bolts to take it off better. I believe there is a how to on this somewhere, ill try and find it and post it here
