i started this thread on s10fourm.com a few days ago. i thought i'd let you guys in on it too. heres the first post, incase the link doesnt work.
so because i have a 3400 in my alero, i was checking out what they have performance wise for it. well it turns out a small shop is into the 60* v6's and they have dynoed a N/A 3400 at 227hp at the wheels.
well i figured the 4.3 is a bigger motor and from the N/A dyno numbers i've seen its hard to go above 220whp.
i thought i would just bring this up and see what you guys thought of it.
could it be drive train loss?
maybe nobody has figured out exactly what makes the 4.3 'tick'?
maybe some has dynoed well over 220whp N/A and i dont know about it?
on the 3400 they had done heads, cam, headers, intake manifolds, larger tb, cat-back, intake, and prob a tune.

dont know much about the 4.3, aside from me whipping a couple of em when they thought my little green sedan was "an old peoples car"

Well, the 4.3 is a completely different engine. It's a 90° V6, basically a 5.7 with 2 less cylinders. (back in the day there was a 3.8 that shared components with the 5.0)
They're usually fairly torquey with low HP numbers.
There was also a 4.3 V8 as well as a 4.3 Olds Diesel V6.

"Yo dude, what do you have done to that car man!!"

And he has some kickass LT headers that he made.
I'll be happy with 220whp with the setup we have talked about.

Certainly:) There is a lot you can do to a motor to get power. Dave upped his compression too. I just wanted to show that 220-230 really isn't breaking a sweat on the 3400 when it comes to total amount possible, with what we know has been done and tested.

i just got done reading about daves car, that somethin else. im impressed.
now over on s10fourm, there saying that your can just rev the 3400 high, in turn flowing more air and making more power. this makes sense to me, its hard to get the 4.3 to rev from what i've read.

7000 RPM is no problem with cam/springs.

im sure fuel on the 4.3 would be a problem at 7000rpm though.

Sorry, I was talking about the 3400. I work with 60V6s 99% of the time:P I am not a fan of 90V6s overall.

The 60°V6 has an even 120° of crank rotation between each firing. Unlike the 90°V6. The 90°V6s also tend to be bigger and bulkier.
