I've been looking into ordering NGK sparkplugs from PFYC.COM.

Is upgrading to NGK sparkplugs worth it? can it cause some sort of problems?

And last question:

on PFYC.COM they have a few type of plugs:

TR55 Set of 6
TR55IX iridium set of 6

" " set of 8

" " set of 8

TR6 set of 6
TR6 Set of 8

Which one is the best and fits my 3.4 alero?

Thanx.

Hmm anymore info on this? arent the iridium plugs better?

I've heard from redog that not only those didn't help his car they actually made his car weaker from how what i understand. i didnt understand exactly why tho.

I just put a set of Bosch Platinum+4 plugs with Bosch Premium wires in my car and it made a HUGE difference (96,000 MI) in the smoothness of the engine. I know that these are not all out performance plugs, but they do the job. :coolio:

beware of the bosch platinum plugs. i put a set in my car and they only lasted about 20,000 miles before it started missing. our cars are somewhat picky if you are running a nearly stock motor i'd stick with the ac delco platinums.

I second that.

But what about the NGK ones? and the iridium? also, what do u mean when u say smoothness of the engine?

factory AC Delco plugs are the best replacement unless it's a high HP racing setup (that doesn't mean CAI and muffler). Other than that, GM did a hell of a job on plug selection.

For those of you that said "X-brand" made your engine run smoother/better, it's more than likely that just changing your plugs period is what made it run better, not the brand you chose.

Idles smooth, not rough, pull a couple plugs wires off and start her up, you'll understand then. :)

I was having big problems with the Bosch plugs (+4's)

Switched them back to the ACDelcos and haven't looked back. Not worth it unless you're modded out big time.

Over on Classic Oldsmobile a guy has an 11 second car, with stock plugs and stock HEI ;)

Prime example bro.

For the record...(and as much as this topic comes up, a broken one) I was running AC Delco same as stock except 2 ranges colder, on my setup at 15psi boost when the tranny assploded. Stock coil packs, and stock wires, stock brand plugs.

I'd love to see people invest their time and money in to more beneficial performance mods than wasting money on ignition.

Friend with a few few drag cars said the +4's made his times slower.

I run the +2's in my Z34 until I started having issues with the way it run, about 15K miles later. Replaced with Autolite and no issues until I got rid of it.

I run Autolites and like them. The $1 ones. Change them every 1.5 years and no issues.

From what I remember hearing awhile back the Iridium's are mainly for high end motors or turboed motors. No benefit to a stock motor.

I am running the ACDelco Professional Platinum plugs with stock coils and MSD wires. The only reason I didn't get the ACDelco plug wires was because the MSD's were cheaper.

I second that.

I third that.. i put bosch platinum 4's in my car, not even a mile later my car starts missing, sputtering, and nearly killing over.. took it back home and removed the plugs, 4 were cracked, one was fried, and only one actually looked new. ACdelco ftw.

The kid at the store told me this when I bought new plugs for the Delta

"Standards aern't the best way to go, but the safest"

They where trying to sell me Platuums for the Delta, had Plats in the 307 and it turned out to be a big problem. Try all 8 plugs missing at the same time

^ well the engine swap isn't a problem since all SBO motors from 1968 to 1990 are exaclty the same, from mounting, intakes, brackets, valve covers, you name it, but all the plugs were different or slightly differnet from year to year.

The Disturtbor was the real kicker. When I bought it, I had no idea what GM motor it was from, what year it was, etc. It turns out it was an Olds dis (shafts are different) but try buying a new advance can for a dis you have no idea what year it is. I only bought the wrong can once

Yeah, isn't that fun? Same type of problem I'm discovering people have with the 4t65 internals. Basic concept is the same throughout, but different year models use different valve bodies and PC valves that none of them are interchangeable or can be retrofitted. Whacked eh?

Didn't your dis have a number stamp on the side (or inside)?
