lifters

i have to do the lifters in my alero. one of them ticks like crazy. if taken it to numerous mechanic that i know and they said its the lifter. i have good mechanical knowledge but have never really worked on the ho. i figure if i just get the Hanes manual and take my time, it shouldn't be a problem. could anyone give me any input on the troubles they had or if this job is easy. time isn't an issue cuz we still have three feet of snow. and this will under $1000 which is nicer than the mechanics shop

the valve covers come off easy but i am not sure how much work it is or how exactly you would get the lifters out of the head. If you really want to know i can check my haynes manual later tonight.

You oughta swap out someother stuff while you got it cracked open like te cams and stuff.

make a box to put the push rods in so that you install them back in the right location I think hayes manaul say something about that

What the hell are you talking about?

The 2.4L doesn't have pushrods.

to change lifter you have to remove the cams so you have to remove timing chain, power steering, cam gears, etc. being that you will loosen up the whole cam tower i would replace top and bottom gaskets for the cam towers.

i am ordering gaskets for everything and will probably do the head gasket since i'm close. well at least i know its doable without fu*king to badly. i figure if i use the hanes manual and take my time everything should workout. thanks for the input.

^lol.......ok doing this is easy but the hardest part is to get the 22 10mm bolts off, also you might have a bit of a hard time putting the timming chain back on if you have never done it. Im not trying to scare you but telling you be careful with that part.

are they 22 bolts? I dont remember but yeah the bolts that hold the black cover on the timing housing is hard unless you plan to remove the engine from the car...doubt it. So jack up the motor but first remove the engine mount then start looking for those 22 bolts. Then comes the hard part, all the bolts in the timing housing....more to explain but its easy unless you dont know nothing about cars. Lots of work with the motor still in the bay so dont look for this to be a weekend job unless you plan to bust your ass. But just for a quick layout...its timing chain cover first...then timing chain and gears and etc....then that cover and then you'll have access to the camshaft housing....oh just forget it go read your haynes
