View Full Version : limg or head gasket?
well its finally happening to my car. my low coolant came on about a month ago. i stopped right away and bought some coolant, and filled it up. it was 0 out so i quick checked for leaks, and checked the oil cap, and didnt notice anything. well this week, the light came on again and my coolant was completly gone. but this time, there was coolant on my oil cap. is this my head gasket? i have been driving it to and from work still (10 miles total), because i have no other way to get to work. the engine tempature has not gone above normal. can i still get this fixed, or do i need a new engine? i ask, because i called up 2 shops and they told me i probally will need a new engine since i still drove it after i noticed this problem.

You can get the gaskets and fix it.

Check the dipstick. If there is more than just oil in your oil pan you got issues and it needs to be fixed ASAP and not driven until then.
If the oil is fine, just keep coolant in it and be prepared to have it done.
dipstick is fine, hopefully it can be fixed this week
burning through antifreeze that quick more than likely a head gasket, if you tear down to lower intake manifolds you may as well do the heads unless you notice any obvious leak into the intake ports when you get to the lower manifold, take care of it though.
No misfires yet?`
if i keep the car, i will most likely get both the head gasket and the limg done i guess. i dont believe i have a misfire. the car has been running fine, like it always has.

Well doing the head gaskets is about another $100 in parts and another 2 hours in labor.

How much white smoke (steam) from the tailpipe.
If it looks like a smoke screen, it's a head gasket
