View Full Version : another exhaust question

For those of you who have dual exhaust..What is your set up? Is it full dual, cat back? I want to have dual, but I'm not sure which route to take. I do like the look of how most of you have it, two separate pipes on either side (but I don't know if i want to cut my bumper on the passenger side the same as existing). My buddy suggested to run two pipes under the existing bumper cut out..which means no look that im going for. He also suggested to use a glaspack behind the cat after a short straight pipe(and this he suggested to have a long glass pack thats 2 1/2" or bigger..this will give me the note I'm looking for..non ricy but "deep")..I'm not sure if I want to do that...I am poor, so that's probably my best option...I know I can go to a muffler shop and have it custom made..but no $$ and my buddy works at a garage, and If I help, I can get a deal. So this is NOT a question of how to do it, but rather a forum for suggestion on what route i should take...

I apologize if this makes little or no sense..but its hard to put two words.
I'm sorry for another long one, I hate doing that.....

FYI true duals is not possible or needed on these cars. The dual exits are purely for asthetics and IMO doesnt look that great. I would just do a catback to the current cutout and call it a day. I would not do a glass pack. The favorite muffler around here is a flowmaster 40 which will give a nice tone. Hope that helps.

yeah i was thinking of a flowmaster but I don't know....I'm just trying to see what options are available

frostbite's pacesetters dont sound bad at all though

mines actually two mufflers,
some people don't like the cans, but it doesn't really matter to me and the piping isn't bad
I'd recommend getting a single in dual outs muffler though, it's probably a lot easier

full dual would be incredibly expensive, if not impossible
and worthless

anyway, the simplest and probably cheapest solution would probably be the pacesetter catback

I wonder how the STP exaust would sound?

I'm probably gonna go cat back if possible..but if i can't ( i haven't looked under my car in a while)..i was originally going to go with a flowmaster 80 where the existing restriction is, and have the tips out like on 420olds' but my problem is the bumper...I donno I would like to at least maintain the dual tips, but I'll be dammed my exhaust is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy toooooooooo quiet....

also, I was thinking of getting a higher flow cat...have any of you used one? If so does it throw a code when your using the stock o2 sensor?

my SLP setup started to get ricey after like a year and a half of having it on the car so i threw on a flowmaster 40 and all is well now.

so like i thought...cat is out of the question...and its looking like the 1 in 2 out muffler may be my way to go...though i would like to make it 2 1/2 from cat back...

you can still do 2.5" from cat back w/1in 2out set up. Thats what i have.

Pacesetter exhaust. Its 2 1/2 inch from the cat back, 1 in 2 out muffler design, dual tips on either side that dont look half bad. Cutting the bumper takes a little effort but you'll like the end result. Sound is great too. Look for my youtube video: "Alero Pacesetter Exhaust" for a good look and ok sound quality... Its deeper in person. Heck, its only $250 too.

damn thats not bad, I'm still unsure of cutting my bumper...Its almost like I should get a razzi style rear bumper so i don't have to worry about it....also, every site i've been looking at for pace setter, its all for the 2.4/2.2 not 3.4..where can i get it?

The Catback is the same for all engines on Aleros. You have probly came across pacesetter headers.

Look for Pacesetter Catback

I think what i saw only had a single outlet not dual

single in dual out is cheaper... 2 mufflers cost alot...
the pacesetter doesnt sound to bad.

Vinman

the pacesetter doesn't sound that bad, but I'd like to get it a wee bit deeper if possible, I know I can do that with a larger pipe but I'm not sure....I really wish there was a way that I could "hear" my options.....
I don't plan on doing this now, but my ho will be paid off in august and thats probably when I'll do it or a lil earlier..I'm just exploring possibilties

Oh ya, I had a flowmaster 40 on my old ho and I didn't like the sound of it at anything above an idle. It sounded like an early '90's grand prix w/o a muffler.

Ok, I was wondering...for all of you that have the dual tips...what did you use to cut the bumper..anything that I'm thinking of will leave a rough edge....and if any of you could...can you post some pics of your set up? I just remembered tax return season is coming, and I might do my exhaust sooner than i thought..thanks
And no, I'm not going to have a shop professionally do this, I still would like to save as much money as possible ( I have a hard time even letting a mechanic drive my car into the shop)
