i need to replace mine on my 99 alero 4 cylinder but the only page that is ripped out of my repair manual seems to be for the fuel pump replacement. can anyone post the step by step on here...or even a clear picture of that particular page would be greatly appreciated. thanks

1. Take to shop.
2. Wait.
3. Pay shop.
Because it's a Bastard to get at. You'd need to drop the tank.
I just searched, And there's no How to Posted. But i'm sure someone can spill the technique if you still want to do it.

:haha:
Yeah, well if you are like me and don't have experience in repairing a car yourself, i'd leave that to professionals. For myself, I would not want to mess with gasoline. Shouldn't be that expensive in labor in a shop because they have lifts to go under the car easily.

^^ I think I paid $402, but the pump itself was $350
you just take off the metal sheild that covers the fuel tank, then you remove the bolts that hold the brackets on the gas tank and drop the tank. the fuel pump assembly will twist and then come out and its just a matter of replacing the assembly, will probably take you about 2 hours unless you have a lift, then it would be much easier.

1. make sure the car is low on fuel for ease.
2. jack up car high enough for you to get underneath
3. remove the heat shield, and if necessary exhaust if routed in an inconvenient way.
6. Any sensors or plugs that seem to be snaking from the tank to plugs, locate, make note of, and unplug. Same with any disconnectable lines. Becareful some of htem may have fuel. Right now is a good time to also replace your fuel filter.
5. the tank is held on by two straps that are secured by two bolts. locate and remove
6. tank is dropping. bring it down to the floor.
7. wow you see a clusterfuck of wires and tubes on top.
8. disconnect whatever is necessary so that you can take it away from underneath the car toa suitable working spot
9. there's a metal ring or a clip depending on the years that you have to remove. Get a screw driver and a hammer and start tapping it around so that it can slip out so you can get the fuel pump out.
10. Take out the can that holds the fuel pump.
11. The new fuel pump should have directions to install and replace.
12. This part is very straightforward, just do it.
13. Do oppposite of removal.

chilton and a haynes manual will help out a lot, as well as a shop manual.
