Hey Audio experts,

Just got a new HU, and the subs fire way louder off of my old highpass install compared to now that i'm runnin RCA's back from the deck. I had to turn up the bass eq on the amp to get it back close to the way it was.

Is this normal?? :huh?:

Do you mean high level inputs (off a speaker lead) vs low level inputs (from the RCAs)? Were you using a line level converter or does your amp take both types of inputs?

Yeah, high pass= running off of speaker level inputs. And my amp takes both, so I was able to compare the high pass to the RCA in off of the same deck.

thx.

I dont know what to tell you on that, is the sound cleaner?? what kinda of HU do you have now?? what kind was your old one or was it stock?? you should definately be able to tell the difference unless your new HU has low voltage on your pre outs

Most new decks have faily high voltage pre-outs so that shouldn't be a problem. I've never tried both inputs on the same amp and compared the 2, now I'm curious too.

The highpass sounded similar from the old deck (stock) to the new deck (Alpine CDA-9827)

The difference is just between high pass/RCA with the same deck.... and yeah, it does sound WAY cleaner with the new deck.

sounds like you dont have a subout on your deck, you're just using either the front or rear output.

if you have a sub-level out on your alpine deck B, check the sub-level on the deck

press the volume knob to access sub level, fader, balance

Dunno much about the Alpine HU's, but my Kenwood HU has and adjustable sub-out. I was messing around one day when I was driving, and found that there's an adjustment for the voltage output of thr RCA's... crank that baby and watch the car shake! :)

the level on the alpine goes from 0 - 15...so if its at 0, then that would explain why it didnt sound as loud

Thanks for the replies guys, yes it has a sub out (4v) as well as front and rear preouts. I'm positive its plugged into the right one.

Sub level is at 15 (max).

hmm...
