Okay, I have to leave for work in exactly one hour.
My father attempted to start my 01 Alero Sedan (2.4l) This morning to run down the road. he couldn't get it started so he had to take his truck.
I just blew it off thinking he didn't know what he was doing and didn't press the brake or something of the sort.
So, I go out to start the car to piss him off and show him he's an idiot, and he was actually right. THE IGNITION WON'T budge. It is currently about 9 Degrees Farenheight outside so it's not that cold. I've tried moving the wheel and it won't move... tried pressing the brake and starting, Also tried to put it in neutral. It seems like the Transmission and Ignition are both locked solid.
I've gone through the owners manual looking for an Anti Theft System but Nothing.
For the love of god. Please help me in time for me to get to work?

the steering wheel should move, our steering wheels dont lock when the car is off, but i dont understand exactly what your problem is....you put the key in the cylinder and it doesnt turn?

lol if our wheels didn't lock then every time i turn my car off in my driveway it'd roll down into the street
he's talking about the key not turning i think
i was refering to the steering wheel.

The key or transmission won't budge... SHould i go with the Heat gun to the engine compartment?
well you cant shift the tranny unless you can get the key to ACC position so that is normal, if your going to heat up anything, it should be the ignition cylinder, maybe there was moisture in there and it froze overnight causing it to not budge.

umm where you stick the key in?
lol the ignition cylinder is the spot where the key goes in, just point a hairdryer in there for like 30 seconds and try to see if you can turn it with the key afterwards

haha, I figured a Heat gun would melt the Dash, So i figured there is another end to it but it's probably not that big. Alright, I won't go with the heat gun, I'll just use a Hair dryer... I'll be back in a few minutes, I'm going to try it... You guys wanna think of other options?

Try heating up the key, that might melt any water that froze up in there. Then spray WD-40 to get rid of moisture.
Also try a spare key, these keys have some kind of anti-theft device in them which might be bad on that key.

dissipate the moisture and lube it up with the wd-40

It was dads key that tried to start it.
You guys are gods. You come through when Someone needs it.
5 seconds with a hair dryer on High and i put the key in and she went like butter.
Thanks alot guys, I owe you.
So Wd-40 Will make sure it doesn't happen again?
I would either use the wd-40 or graphite in the future...darn Canadian 9 degree weather.
im a champ, you may pay me via paypal.
