has anyone seen this site yet? http://www.modexcool.com/
We are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative nationwide settlement with General Motors...
You will have the option to be included in the settlement if you incurred out-of-pocket expenses for any of the following repairs:
1. A replacement of the lower intake gasket, made within 7 years or 150,000 miles of the date of initial delivery for 1995-2003.5 Model Year vehicles with 3.1-liter V6 and 3.4-liter V6 engines, where OEM lower intake manifold gasket was a nylon/silicone gasket, and the vehicle was equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.
2. A coolant sealability repair (including, but not limited to, throttle body gasket, upper intake manifold gasket, lower intake manifold gasket, etc.), made within 7 years or 150,000 miles of the date of initial delivery for 1995-2004 Model Year 3.8-liter V6 engines (RPO L36), where the vehicle was equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.

3. A Dex-Cool sludge repair, made within 7 years or 150,000 miles for 1995-2000 Model Year S/T light trucks and sport utility vehicles with 4.3-liter V6 engines and equipped with Dex-Cool coolant.
The settlement will require you to provide proof that you owned or leased the vehicle at the time of the repair and that you paid for an included repair. If you do not have a receipt, ask the auto repair shop that did the work to provide you with one.
The terms of the proposed settlement are confidential while we work to finalize the settlement papers for court approval. If the court preliminarily approves the settlement, the parties will publish, mail, and email a notice that describes the terms of the settlement and your legal rights. We hope to obtain court approval and get notice out by February 2008. At that time, we will be able to answer inquiries regarding the specifics of the settlement and how to file a claim. In the meantime, you should retain all receipts you have for repairs to your vehicle

Ive heard of the class action suit awhile back.

Good news, but its to late for many. I know I wouldnt ever be reimbursed for my expense or time. Plus it reads like it has to be repaired by a shop, not a person.

I could use that $600 right now :D

I emailed the guy, I'll see what he says.

Would be cool, money I spent on the intake gasket, get refunded, and put into getting the Delta's tranny rebulit. Talk about streching your money :D

I'm definitely jumping in on this. When I took my car to the dealership for this, they couldn't find the problem (or didn't make a real effort). Couple of weeks later, I was driving down the interstate and a noticed a loss in power right before it died. The shop I took it to told me that the engine was completely lost and had it replaced for around 2400 (hell, I didn't know anything about cars so what could i do). My second engine is in the shop right now for what happened three weeks ago. I get it back tomorrow at the price of 940. It's only that high due to the fact that both cylinder heads were warped beyond shaving and had to be replaced. Luckily i'm still on file their and can get printouts.

if that goes through... don't you think people who are aware of it,should get a free replacement to something that'll NOT break?

hmm... maybe i should have mine looked at if it qualifies...

Cool... I got that done at a dealer and made sure I saved the receipt, knowing eventually there would be a big enough stink.

So this means that if I had my pistons resurfaced and block rebored because my car was leaking antifreeze that GM will pay for the repairs if I can show proof that it was because of dexcool? I'm wondering what the proper protocol for all this is?

I would say eMail the guy and ask.

My buddy's Malibu was leaking, but nobody knew. He's not a car guy and it was leaking behind the pullies.

Long story short: ran dry, middle of summer, cracked block.

I was with him when this happened

Um,

Ironically, I'm supposed to take it this Sat. To get it fixed LIMG leak, cause both oil and Dex are mixing up bad. Never let it run dry though.
