How easy is it to swap trunks? My aunt just gave me an early birthday present, money to buy an undestroyed trunk from a parts yard that has my exact color with absolutely no damage.

Wondering if I could just do the job there with a bud haha

Yay no mounts anymore once this is done, clean trunk

shouldnt be TOO hard, but im assuming its something like hanging a door. if you dont do it exactly right, it will prolly leak, so i would fit it on the hinges first, mark it, then attach it and adjust if necessary...

its just 4 screws that hold the actual trunk lid onto the hinges if i remember correctly from when i took mine off.

yeah, its only 4 screws (metrics i think). i'd imagine that u just have to disconnect a wiring harness

4 10mm nuts
make sure when mounting dont tighten all the way
till you can et it aligned maybe 10 min job.

here is my suggestion,
junk parts are never ever perfect ya could have dents, rust who knows just wait to see the deck lid
as far as the alignment goes here is what i would do, remove the wire harness, and remove either the latch or the striker, having one or the other part on will make for a difficult alignment
once you get the gpas then reinstall the latch or the striker which ever one you perfer
that is the correct way

I'd say remove the latch because you're gonna need it for the replacement lid anyway, that is, if you want to use the same key. Yeah, I know you can always use the button on the door but in some cases, that can be a hassle.

that doest matter the key part is pop rivited it you wont get it out...
theres a cable that runs from the key hole to the latch its self....
best way just drill that bitch out if you use ur key hole then youll have to rivit i back in

URGENT PROBLEM

K, so I got the trunk all on, looks great, everything's wired up. However, being the dumbass I am, I flipped up the seats in my car and now I am unable to get to or open the trunk. The lock is different, of course, and the button on the driver door doesn't want to open the trunk either. I have it wired up, so it clicks, you can hear it, but the trunk won't open. I tried vigorously to rock and roll and push and pull the trunk while someone else pressed the button over and over, but to no avail.

How the hell can I get back into my trunk. I was just opening it with the emergency latch but now clearly I can't climb through that way any longer as I flipped up the rear seats. Is there a way I could fold down the rear seats without entering the trunk?

[ion] C2

god damn im a dumbass

maybe i should just have a locksmith/dealer cut me a key that works it or at least get into the trunk so i can align it right if that's why the electric latch popper isn't opening it

Well, Is there any way you can have the lock drilled out and replace it with your own?

[ion] C2
11-24-2007, 09:48 PM
Ya, I could smash a screwdriver where the key goes then be able to turn the screwdriver to lock/unlock the trunk, then once open, drill out the rivets of the lock and install my old lock, which is probably what i'll end up doingh

Could you possibly go thru the rear deck?? remove the speakers and try something thru there??

[ion] C2
11-24-2007, 10:32 PM
well to remove the rear speaker deck i'd have to fold down the seats, lol. i could try maneuvering a hanger between the seats/deck and hook on the loop to lay down the seats, which i'll try tomorrow

Gr1m
11-24-2007, 11:31 PM
you wont be able to do that, good luck though, BTW why didnt you use reuse the old latch...?

Oldsnut
11-24-2007, 11:45 PM
Didn't bdyman tell ya to remove the lock or the striker and line evreything up? Why will nobody listen to him? You'd be done by now if you had. :rolleyes2:
Good Luck.

who needs a trunk anyway just leave it locked lol

YALEROYNOT
11-25-2007, 01:21 AM
you could pop the lokg out with a screw driver and release it. but then you take the chance on scratchin it.

[ion] C2
11-25-2007, 07:59 AM
i was going to use the old latch/lock, but i thought i could just use the button, but until i fixed it all up i was leaving the seats down so i could pop the trunk via the emergency release but i was a moron and flipped the seats back up lol

ROFL yes. I love to edit Wiki and see how long my changes last. Others keep putting up their Aleros as one of the images, so I figured why not put mine up. Better than the Pizza Delivery piece of shit.

[ion] C2

6 days

good thing i left my ice/snow scraper/brush in the trunk that i can no longer get to lol. im going to go to the locksmith on tuesday and get them to get it open and/or cut me a key for it, then fix it properly

can u fit your arm between the seat and car on the passenger side to reach the releases?

Gr1m

not unless your arm can mutate into a something with the ability to shrink to like 1/4"

What about running a stiff wire hanger to try and hook on the end of the release strap. Make sure to not lean against the seats or they will not pop. Just a thought.

How about getting the VIN off the car that the lid came off of and getting the dealer to cut a new key for it so you can open it...

Don't they require proof of ownership to cut a key off of the VIN number. Getting hold of the VIN number might be easier said than done.

lol if thats the case im gonna go find some aston martin in the mall parking lot and get the VIN and go get a key cut for it

actually i know someone who just went to a dealer with the VIN and they cut the key, no questions asked... kinda not good lol, good for Gr1m..

this trunk has been sitting in their inventory for quite some time now, and most of the thousands of parts they have i'm sure are stolen.. i got this off Schaefer & Grand River... basically one of the worst parts of Detroit, lol. These guys who ran the place were into major underground street racing/drifting, haha. 700-1000HP cars they had.. everything's done in cash

i'm going to try the hanger today, otherwise i'm going to the locksmith tomorrow

ehh picture taking season's over, snowy now

If the dealer were to look up the VIN in VIS it would show up that it has a branded title / warranty block / etc.. All you really need is the last 8 digits of it. Sometimes the parts are tagged with the VIN as well. I know plenty of things I've gotten were.

Ended up getting it open today. Went to two locksmiths, neither could pick it.. noobs. He did squirt some type of oil in the lock. After a half hour of trying to get to the release strap, I attempted to just force the seat down, which failed. Then I had my sister press the release button over and over as I wiggled the trunk as much as I could, failed. Finally I just stuck my key in and wiggled it around then it turned! And the trunk opened.

The electric release wasn't opening all the way so it wouldn't release the latch. It was stuck, so I worked at it and I made it free, and oiled it up a bit so it doesn't seize again, and the electronic way opens it fully. Yay.
