when i bought my car, I chose the v-6 because I thought it was an over-all better engine than a 4 banger. anyway, the longer I've had my alero, the more I noticed that there's more aftermarket performance parts for the 4 cylinder's especially the 2.4L. anyway, am I missing something or what because I am at a loss on what I can do for my 3400 other than a cai, computer chip, and shift kit without dumping $$$ down the drain. its got 95k on it so i'm afraid that the moment i invest some money that it'll die on me.

high mileage is the best time for rebuilding it! i had my motor overhauled at 92k miles. granted, it was expensive as hell but now im at 106k and going strong. im hoping to get at least another 80k miles out of this car before i get something new.

The 3400 does have an Aftermarket now, although not as strong as the 2.4 or 2.2, but it's out there.

Sometimes modifing a car, you have to be creative ;)

I've noticed it too
when I was looking for my car, I had my eyes set on the 3400 too because I thought it would be the better engine, however I found a good deal on my twin cam. I thought i was just making a compromise but then I found out how much potential these small engines have, so I've got big plans now.
Now that I do have the 4, I look back and wonder what I could've done had I gotten the 3400, and it's just like CAI... and not much else unless I wouldve really poured money (that I don't have) into it. Lurking around other sites like j-body and quad4forums gave me some good ideas though.
I guess you'd have to go custom.

and didn't you actually buy (or were about to buy) a 99 2.4 alero a couple weeks ago for parts or something?

yes, I was but put it on hold because I was looking into buying a grand prix and selling the alero altogether. The 2.4 is still for sale for $500 but its a pos and needs alot of work to make it better. plus, it has 130K on it.
