I'm recieving my DHP PCM on friday! so I need to know where the PCM is located in my car? We (DHP and I) are hoping everything works properly, because this is the first PCM they have done for an 03, if all goes well the weekend of the 24th I'm putting my car on a Dyno.

I guess I didn't know they were actually shipping these. I've got an '01 and would love to pick this up.

How do we get in touch with them anyway?

It is under the dash on the driver's side. You'll need to remove a plastic hush panel to see it. The PCM is a silver/grey metal box encased in a plastic mounting sleeve (look for the two big rectangular connectors with all the wires). Be sure to disconnect your battery!

Thanks... I left off the "Inc" when I tried guessing their website and got a graphics design site.

I'll have to check them out again.. I've tried in the past to get something moving with them, but nothing so far.

Mine is the first 03 Alero PCM they have done, they are waiting to see if there are any problems with mine, so they are not actually shipping them out at this point that I know of, I would have loved to go get a custom tune in person but I live in south texas so it would have been a hell of a long drive.

Naich

You and I have similar mods, so I would imagine that even though mine is an 01, the tunes should be identical for our cars. I don't think the PCM has changed on the 3400.

mfuller
04-15-2004, 12:38 AM
There are subtle (but important) changes to the PCM code for each year.

jabartram
04-15-2004, 12:42 AM
I think they were have problems finding the Bin-file for my car, I sent them a actual pic of my VIN plate to help them out!

Has anybody dyno'd a non s/c or turbo 3400 I would like something for compareson, I know factory h.p. is rated at aprox 180, I'd have dyno'd mine total stock but I didn't find out about this machine till after I got my exhaust?

mfuller
04-15-2004, 07:39 AM
Typically, a completely stock car will lay down somewhere in the neighborhood of 143whp.

Alerosince99
04-15-2004, 07:58 AM
With cai, exhaust and headers I was putting down about 160whp but this was with a gigantic exhaust leak. I would guess that with everything fixed Im at about 170whp. There is a dyno chart somewhere on the site of my first run.

Got it installed, but have some codes, runs pretty well, but waiting for an email reply from DHP!

would it be ok to put my original PCM back in till I hear from DHP, does anybody know?

^^^Yes, I swap my ase and the stock one I got from a salvage yard whenever I have to take the car back to Olds for service. No problems at all.

Bad news for me at this point, hardware part number mismatches are causing problems, and I can't park my car for 2 days to send up my PCM because it's my only car! so I'm not sure whats gonna happen now?

I'll tell you what though, the guys at DHP are great, they are doing everything they can to help me out right now!

Just got an Email reply, they are sending me another PCM to try, as the first one gave me idle issues, so i'm crossing my fingers!

Installed my second new PCM, it started the first time with no SES light! test drove and it's shifting at 6000 now, what are the factory shift points? it seems to get to 6000 quicker!

jturkey69
05-01-2004, 09:47 PM
how firm are the shifts?...mine shifts around 5700...not positive cuz the indiglows could be off a bit

jturkey69
05-01-2004, 09:50 PM
how bout the temp guage??..any lower then halfway?, top speed limiter?

jabartram
05-01-2004, 09:56 PM
don't know about the speed limiter, temp guage is lower but its very cool outside right now, front blew through earlier!

Voodosoup
05-01-2004, 10:59 PM
Is it programmed to skip-shift like the Grand Am version?

jabartram
05-01-2004, 11:19 PM
Don't know for sure, exactly what is skip shift?

jabartram
05-05-2004, 03:14 PM
I've driving on my new PCM for a couple days now, I do have an SES light for the 02 Sensor circuit, code 0135, so I'm sending my factory PCM up and they are gonna program it, the 03's seem to only want to work properly with the exact hardware part number, the one I have now is in the same series, but there were changes in 02 sensor settings, so that is the up to date so far,

I do like the performance, it shifts at 6000, has the 3-1 skipshift ( which I don't really understand this, so I don't know what to look for?) has a 2 minute low speed fan on time after key off,

I think it defaults the fuel timing settings when the SES light in on so I'll let you know, more when I get Factory PCM reprogrammed!

Naich
05-05-2004, 03:17 PM
I wonder if the PCM that you have would work for 01's and earlier then?

jabartram
05-05-2004, 03:23 PM
The first one I got probably would, it was from an earlier year! if you decide to get one take a pic of your VIN and PCM data tag and send to them it makes it much easier.

thank god my shop ships UPS free for me, this will be 3 PCM's I'm shipping to them, but It will all be worth it in the end!

Its loookin good for us 3.4 alero owners
Heres the reply I got from jason at dhp

Within a month we should have v1 for Aleros. The biggest issue we have with that car is the fact that the MY03 Alero's are very hardware part # specific. Most of this is due to the fact that GM decided to change 02 sensors and their related circuitry within the pcm. This results in us having to flash the EXACT part # that the MY03 owners have in their vehicles.

Translation: Hard to find cores for such a "new" vehicle when we have to match exact part #s. I am definitely doing my best to round up as many as possible for when v1 is available for you though.

jabartram
05-09-2004, 02:34 AM

Yeah... great news... but that doesn't answer the MY'01 issue of not having a product out.

If they are only having problems with '03 Alero's, then open the flood gates up and let us '99 - '02 owners get in and get a system hooked up at least.

I've been waiting on them for almost 2 years now to get this together and I'm anxious!! Yeah, of course I want it to work right, and I know they are trying... but I just don't want to wait anymore.

How do I get in touch with them directly? I'd like to get on a "list" or something so that as soon as they are ready to ship, I can get one.

Thanks... I've done that a few times over the last year and not a response yet. I was hoping there was another way to contact them, as using the website has shown to be ineffective for me.

I'll try it again.

OK, got my factory PCM back reprogrammed by DHP, installed and no problems, no SES light, runs great I'm impressed, shifts are a bit stronger, but no jerky, fans run in quiet mode for 2 min's after shutoff, pulls hard through all rpm. skip shift is programmed in. I still need to install my 180 t-stat. I told them that there are quite a few people on this site that are interested in one of their PCM's so email them, I think they got the problems worked out with hardware numbers and will tell what they need when you buy one!

I'm gonna put my car on a dyno within the next month, and will post results.

Got an e-mail reply this time!

My message:

I've got a 2001 Olds Alero and am very interested in your PCM's for this car. I understand that you have been in development on this car, and that there are a few of them out there.

Is this item in a state which can be ordered, and if not, do you know when this might happen? I'm also interested in what the cost is and how much the core charge is as well.

Their response:

You can order it now. Takes 3-4 business days.

Cost is $215 + $125 refundable core charge + $12.00 shipping.

The core charge is the additional deposit added to the order pending the return of the old part. Once they receive the old part, you are credited back the core charge.

Your not an idiot as many people get confused by the terminology.

jabartram
05-17-2004, 10:13 PM
The core charge is money you pay to them until you send your or another PCM back to them when you recieve your new one. it's like a deposit on a tool from autozone?

Hey guys. I was browsing ebay, and found a '99 PCM for the 3.4

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33596 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2479212245&category=33596)

If any of you guys with a '99 are really close to sending yours in for the tune, a back up is prolly a good idea. ( Even with no complications, a back up would make it possible to drive the car while you're waiting ) Just cross-reference the numbers to see if it'll work on your car first.

B) Thought this might help someone....
