Is it best to pay out of pocket or go through insurance to replace a windshield. I believe it happened while driving on the freeway. How much would a windshield cost?

i believe they are pretty pricey, hovering around $700+ for one. most insurance companies replace them for free, regardless of what coverage you have (meaning even the cheapest plans have it included). i would go through insurance...

Yea you can usually get a windsheild cheaper yourself than paying your deductible. About $300 installed if not less. The body shops just turn up the price to like $600-700 if it goes through the insurance company so they can get more money. Told that by a local body man.

well yeah, depending on your deductible, it may be cheaper, but if your deductible is only $50 like mine, then def go though your insurance. heck, my g/f has the cheapest liability coverage known to man, and its still included on her policy. just check your policy and compare...

Yeah, I had mine done at Adessa auto glass... they're up in Canada, not sure if they're in the states. But I remember even Speedy Auto Glass was saying $340 + tax. $700 seems a bit high...

I don't remember the exact price, but mine was under $200 installed with a used windshield. (there are no '04 aftermarket windshields yet)

Yeah SMP (GM Dealership) straight up told me that no matter how cheap they can get it the glass shops can always do it for $100 less. They told me that they normally charge $500-$600 but said they'd let me have it for $400, and then said to talk to a glass shop.

There's actually 4 different windshields used. The '99-'03 all spec the same replacement though. The only difference is that the '04 has a dot matrix pattern instead of a tinted strip at the top of the window.

My full coverage insurance said the glass deductible was $500 just like the rest of the car...
I paid $180 for mine. Its Pilkington Glass too. Not that shitty Chinese garbage...
Make sure its US or Canadian Glass!
Oh and FYI, Progressive kindly referred me to a place that would do it for a low price of $350...lmao

I got quoted $150 for one without insurance. I went with the place that would come to work, used my insurance, and paid $150 ($100 off $250 deductible). It's your comprehensive deductible that you have to pay for glass. But call around and just try to find it cheap. Even a few bucks more than your deductible it worth it to not have a comp claim if you want to switch insurance any time in the next few years.

Damn Tractor Trailer got me kicking up peebles on the highway, and I have damn good insurance, but what I found out when my grand am windshield was cracked was that its cheaper to just pay out of pocket to get it fixed then it is to pay the deductible. My damn deductible was more then it was to get the new windsheild and have them put it in...with a guarentee. It's cheaper to pay out of pocket.
