I am looking to get, among other things, a nitrous wet kit for my 99 alero, and i am debating between a "regular" wet kit, and a direct port kit. Thoughts?

^ haha ya thats what I was thinking.. you should probably do some of your future upgrades first such as engine internals and upgraded transmission.

^depends how big of shot he is getting

^ how many guys on this site have blown their 3.4's with even a small nitrous set up on a stock engine??? i cant remember who exactly, but i know there is quite a few

oh yea, i was deffiniyly planning on upgrading the stock internals to handle the effects of the spray, but i was purely asking which is a better set up.

the internals can handle the extra power of the nitrous, they cant however handle a leanout situation due to the use of nitrous that is why you will need to be able to tune your motor to run nitrous, a 50 shot if used properly will be fine 75 and beyond will require extra fuel, timing retard and they all require a throttle switch. if stock internals of a 3400 will handle 15 psi of boost, they will handle nitrous.

a direct injection wet kit is a better kit, but i think at this point you will have to do a custom kit for direct injection.

boom indeed inless u plan on forging ur internals, and then when u do id go for a direct port injection system

It's all in how you tune it, and how hard you drive the car. Rule of thumb for stock engines is no more than 50% of the engines OEM horsepower rating. So on a 170HP 3400 V6, half of that is 85HP.

if you are planning on internals, why stop there? build the whole motor.

^ then screw the NOS and boost it!

why does everyone think that nitrous immediately destroys motors? Enough fuel and a good tune will keep her safe. Just dont get trigger happy.

i was planning on doing the nitrous kit as an additon to the t3/t4 turbo. its a good thing that i dont have a heavy foot. haha

If you go turbo, don't spray it

Yes, agreed. No need to go through extra tuning to spray a turbo engine when you could simply turn up the boost when you feel the need for more power.

alright good to know, thanks a lot, question answered. if i did feel the unreasonable need to spray it with a turbo, is it harmful or just unnecessary?

It can be very harmful if the engine isn't built and tuned properly. With boost and spray, fuel and timing have to be 100% perfectly tuned throughout the rpm range and that takes a lot of time and money to do. A lot of people wouldn't go through the hastle of it. I personally think it's easier to tune for a few different boost levels, set at whichever one you desire and go drive.

/\ ditto, without nitro you can be a smidge off on your tune through the curve. On the juice you gotta be perfect on the fuel tables or boom!

if you tune your car from idle through WOT at your max boost level, then you can turn the boost down to anything below that at any time and you're still on. If you really want to save the tranny, get a multi-stage boost controller.
