A lot of people that have that motor that I know just buy a intake off e-bay but, someone with some more 3.4 experience will chime in soon and be able to give you some other options if you are looking for something brand name.

When you say in front of the fender are you talking about going down through the fender well to get true cold air or some thing else?

the inside of them melt off, the chrome stuff. i picked up one of these real quick when i needed an elbow for redoing my intake, within a week the inside had a large area where the chrome had melted/disintegrated

I have the Dr Speed one, but I don't know if they still make it.

One of the intakes for the Civic works as a cold air, but I don't know which one.

What you could do is just get the grommet and get one with the 2 holes for the vacuum line and IAT sensor and get a few short chrome pipes ;)

dr speed makes a cai for the 3400 like redog said, just check it out. I know tons of people are selling their hoes, mines already sold, but I have the 2.4 so your best bet is to just ask someone for theirs or the website to a company that makes a cai for the 3400. Also in ur search look for grand ams with the same engine, if anything u can just make ur own, the TB for the 3400 is about a foot or two away from the fender so it shouldnt be that hard to do.

you can still go onto ebay and get a CAI that'll go behind the fender, and save yourself alot more money that if you get the one from drspeed...

exactly, or what jackel (jon) did was buy the CAI for the honda accord and just put a couple of gromets for the sensors in and it worked like a charm AND it was only $20.00

i got a sweet kit off ebay, then just added some more pipe to get the filter further up in the fender and towards cooler air. works amazing.

Has anyone in the northern climates, such as Canada (Not BC or Southern Ontario) or Nothern USA put a CAI on their Aleros? If so, what is it like in the winter? Is it hard running till it warms up? Would I be better off just putting a WAI on? I live in Manitoba, basically same place as Eh nigma. Any help will be appreciated.

I live in Grand Forks ND during the winters. I have never had an issue with my car in the cold. Dont worry about it, she'll be fine.

I had CAI in the winter in michigan(not the coldest but made frequent trips to northern ontario), my car ran a little cooler than usual, but it started just fine and snow/slush was never a problem.
I had the chrome intake CAI off ebay, I would reccomend it, very easy change to WAI if necessary.

you can build that same exact intake from autozone they have all those same parts plastic tubes and everything.....but it wont fit the 3.4

SIUlero

yeah, autozone carries the spectre line. But as far as not fitting the 3.4...I think what tonyboi was trying to say is you just have to measure everything and fit it yourself, they don't actually have a listing of which pieces you need to make it work. The only listings they have are for the more commonly modded cars.

However, it sounds like others on here know more about the actual quality of it than I do (i haven't tried it myself)...i'd listen to them and sidestep spectre for the intake stuff, it's too expensive for plastic.

The only intake imo worth buying for the alero is the one made by doctorspeed.com best intake ever, he was a pain in the asz to work with but when I got it, I couldnt be happier!

^its the same damn thing. SAME exact intake. there are WAI/CAI/turbo and Superchargers. Those are the only intakes available for our cars... so paying 130 for a product that costs 20, is just foolish.

thanks for all the input guys. i was looking into the spectre line cuz my neighbor was selling a whole bunch of them brand new for 25 bucks. and i know they normally run about 10 bucks a piece. he is transfering to another base and didnt need them anymore. i went ahead and got them anyways, just to give them a shot. i'll post up some pics later on after i install them. wish me luck!!!

for the parts you need 2 - 45 degree p/n 8738, 1 - 22 degree p/n 8728, 2 - 60 degree p/n 8668, and 1 - 90 degree p/n 8698. at least thats what i used. you can also add the air flow sensor mount p/n 8705, and the vacuum/ sensor adapter p/n 8707. hope this helps, if anyone wants to give it a shot too. i'll let you guys know how my car reacts to the change here in WA.

I take offence to that.

No, it really does look good. Its clean, and I like that. Just wondering as to how the fitment was for you? Ie., any issues with assembling and installing it, or was it just a simple job?

it sure was a lot cheaper than $130. still have money for gas for 3 weeks. lol. actually, the only issue i had was the steel/metal part that held the old plastic tube. i had to bend the hell out of the old steel that held the old plastic tube. once i had the correct parts i wanted it took me like 20 mins to put it together. the 3 inch tube fit perfectly right behind the battery and as you can see there was still room left. hope these pics and p/n help anyone in the future.
