Well in the last time i've noticed a strange noise coming from the engine bay, it wasn't too loud or scary but something has defenitly changed... I went to the mechanics about a week ago and they said everything is fine even tho I already suspected something is wrong with the timing belt/alternator...
So today i was driving and i stopped to drop some girl @ her home and then when i tried to move the steeringwheel it was allmost impossible and then all of the power in the car kinda went off and I realized something is defenitly effed up...
So i looked at the engine and there i saw the serpentine belt pretty much disconnected from its place.
I also found out that there r some oil leaks.
Anyway im really mad on those mechanics for letting me keep on ripping the car off untill it couldnt stand it anymore so i sent the car to a far far away mechanic (pretty much in the middle of no-where) hoping that he will get the job done good enough.
I have no idea what caused the serpentine belt to get effed up like that but I guess it's just something that happens when a car is on the road for alot of time isn't it? and do u think the fact that i felt like the car is losing a bit power is related to those problems?
Hope to get my Alero soon

You sure you mean the timing belt, and not the drive belt? If your timing belt went, you'd of heard some REAL bad noises, and if you could see it gone when you opened your hood, you'd also see parts of your engine covers gone as well. Me thinks it is the serpentine belt you mean.

Well im not sure how u call it in english but I'm talking about the small black belt that spins all the time pretty fast.

I Agree
Thats your serpentine belt. They can crack and wear with heat over time.

I would check your power steering fluid level. My high pressure hose went on mine. the fluid would get low and make turning the wheel hard with funny noises.

Got my alero back a few minutes ago and it feels alot better... There were a few other parts that needed to get replaced as well (and it had nothing to do with the steering wheel fluid) and its all cool now.

yeah that's no big deal, the timing belt (in the 3400's case a chain) big problem, big bucks to fix

If it ever breaks. You would really have to abuse the engine in order to break that thing.

Yeah, it just had some troubles with the serpentine belt logger and some more of those and there was also a problem with a seal gasket of some sort that caused the engine to react kinda slippy (or something like that).
I just felt like the car is really tired and stressed and especially since last week because the Xenon kinda killed it since it requires alot of power from the alternator so it was just a matter of time... But now im happy :)

actually Xenon only draws 35 watts as opposed to 55 watts for standard Halogen so your actually putting less stress on the eletrical system :)

yea that's what i've read as well but its not like that. first of all the whole watts and lights thing is different in european aleros and second when i installed the xenon i also installed 2 ballasts that draw ALOT of your power to it and then transforms it... I also checked the alternatoer and it gets hot very fast and i've seen the alero shutting the lights off at day sometimes coz there was too much pressure.
So yeah numbers can tell one thing and reality another.

wait ... what year is yours ... Im assuming that your DRLs are your lows egh? That might cause a issue ... but from what I understand the Ballasts only draw 35 Watts and then convert that to the nessecary voltage to "start-up/warm-up" then they only draw normal power to run the HIDs.
I am just speakin' from my personal experience as I dont have any issues with my car after I installed my HIDs.

2000 and they r my lows yeah (I believe all european Aleros got the drl's on their lows)...
did u mean that they draw 35 at start and then they draw more? and yeah maybe what they mean is that one ballast draws 35 so 2 of them draw 70? haha that might explain it... and why should it b a prob if my drl's are lows?

im not saying the DRLs being the lows are an issue just saying that because it means you HIDs are on all the time unless you use your highs but I assume that you highs are stock and suck compared to the HIDs.
and that is wierd that your DRLs are lows ... I gotta 2000 and mine are highs
EDIT 1: oh and to clarify .. the HIDs are uspposed to draw 35W @ 12V when operating normally (after warm up) ... my Ballast says that at start up it has an Output of 23,000 Volts but that is only for like a sec ... and that is to get the HIDs to Arc (they dont have filaments)
EDIT 2: and just another thing to think about if you say that they combined draw 70W then that is still less than the Stock Bulbs since the draw 55W a piece

Ok but for some reason it still looks like it draw alot more than the original bulbs over here.
I'm just trying to find a way to disable the DRL's so i can switch them off at day...
And my drl's are low because the law is different and allows it to use the lows i guess... There are a few changes between american headlights & european headlights.

just unplug the DRL relay in the underhood fuse box. That's how i disabled the low-beam DRLs on my '04.

I tried that but then got a "service vehicle soon" lamp and i tried to re-set the computer's car but nothing helped and it stayed on... i have to find another way.

there is a thread about how to disable the DRLs ... without getting the SVS Light
found it :D
