I know DOHC has a thread similar to this, but i dont wanna jack his thread.

so lately ive been thinking about upgrading the brakes, i feel like i have to push harder on the brakes to stop when i have my rims on. I know they are bigger and weigh more, so would it be a good idea if i bought the Baer brake upgrade off of PFYC????? will they help me out a lot??

Do you guys think i need one? cause i dont want my brake pads wearing out a lot faster.....idk. is it worth the money?

depends on what ur doing with ur ho man, powerslot rotors and hawk pads would be fine for everyday use, or if ur going racing or for just show and have the extra 500 bucks for the baers be my guest and go for it, just my 2 cents

only problem with that is that you wont be able to put your stock wheels on with the big brake kit, so its up to you if you want to leave your rims on through our harsh NY winters

^^^ thats a really good point

shit there goes my plan of ever getting this done......cause our winters here suck so putting aftermarket rims during that season is no better then taking them and throwing'em over a cliff

thanx for bringing that up, didnt think about that

Gr1m
06-20-2007, 02:11 AM
you could get cheap beater rims that are 17s or bigger for the winter if you wanted to do that, just so your main rims wouldnt get effected by the snow/salt

MixtapeMessiah
06-20-2007, 02:41 AM
that would be a good $600+ if ur willing to do that plus the couple of grand for the front and rear baer or ssbc kits, its totally up to you dude.

Gr1m
06-20-2007, 03:19 AM
its only like 900 for the kit and then im sure if you really wanted to you could get a BEATER set of wheels anywhere from like 300$ and up

hmmmm, that sucks, i didnt know i couldnt put the stock rims back on after i got that upgrade. thanks! i guess i will just get some new rotors, maybe some new brake pads. but i changed the pads about 20,000 miles ago...... i was just wondering if i should get the upgrade cause the rims are bigger and heavier and it takes more to stop them. new rotors will work good, right?

Id say go for it, personally I love mine! The changing a tire sucks because you gotta either have a 17" spare or take the rear wheel to the front and put spare on rear but in the end they are worth it. Stop alot faster than stockers ever did.

yea it would be nice if i could get 17s to use for the winter, lmao, but i dont have an extra 300-500 bucks:lol:

wont new rotors help me with braking? def. not as good as the baer upgrade, but slotted rotors are better than stock....

When the pads squeeze against the rotor, the dust that's created sits between the pad and rotor, and with slotted and/or drilled rotors, the slots and holes get rid of the dust and also helps cool the rotor. So yes, just adding slotted rotors will help you and are better than stock. I have drilled and slotted rotors and I've been very happy with mine.

^^I just read what I wrote. I sound like an ad for Power Slot :p

have the same rotors on my car for about a year and 3 months and they work great. make sure to get new pad with the rotor because old pads will ruin the new rotors.

how about these???? http://store.r1concepts.com/Items/combo%20r1%20%20210?

but one question.....what do they mean when they say " THE PRICE OF $60.00 FOR:
4 Front + 4 Rear R1 Concepts Semi-Metallic Premium Brake Pads"

why 4 front and 4 rear?

alerored04
06-21-2007, 03:08 PM
because each caliper has two pads in it.

billytheman1188
06-21-2007, 03:12 PM
ohhh yeaaaaaaaa. i forgot about that. WOW. alright, well are those good pads for the rotors??? or do you recommend something else?

alerored04
06-21-2007, 03:40 PM
They look fine. I went with full ceramic, they make a little bit of noise when i stop and some people say that they are too hard for stock style rotors which these are since they are oem then drilled. But they dont create any dust at all and i love that. I havent noticed any warpage in my rotors either and i have had the ceramics on them for more than a year now. But i paid almost twice what those pads are so go for those, you will be happy with it.

lol billy put 1 pad for each rotor, let us know how that works out

LMAO Id like to see him brake after that !

As for the brakes, I've ordered R1 with semi-met pads last week. Happy to see so many members got them and are satisfied.

Funny shit..

But ceramic's are amazing..

Hands down the best I ever bought, they wore so extremly slow I loved em..

They lasted a long long time, which is uncommon for Aleros..

I used them on stock rotors..

The original factory pads on Aleros are ceramic. That's why I went with ceramic replacements. They squeak and squeal quite a bit now, but that's because I need new clips and bolts...should have replaced them with the pads/rotors. And FWIW, Autozone's Duralast GOLD pads are always made from the same type and grade materials that the vehicle came with from the factory...that's how I know Aleros are ceramic.

billytheman1188
06-22-2007, 12:58 AM
well i dont want pads that squeek, that would piss me off! lol

and about the pads, i know there are 4, ive put pads in myself, i just forgot, haha.

any other pads that are good for those rotors that wont squeek??? if not, i will just deal with it.

Gr1m
06-22-2007, 03:04 AM
they have a special liquid to lube up the rotors with that supposedly stop the squeaking, check out autozone, i was lookin at a bottle last time i was there

SIUlero
06-22-2007, 08:02 PM
^^^It's actually called caliper lubricant, and it's for the slide bolts/pins, not the rotors. I always use it anytime I do a brake job, but if the pins and anti-rattle clips are too worn out, you're gonna get squeaking no matter what you do. We sell it in bottles that'll last you forever, or little one time use packets if you don't work on brakes often. Note: DON'T PUT IT ON THE PAD SURFACE OR THE ROTOR!!! Actually, never put anything but brake cleaner on either of those.

baer are decent. i would recommend them over SSBC. even cheaper would be to do what Cliff did with the GM upgrade.

Or go all out for a full custom Brembo setup

After putting my SSBC kit on mine.. I agree w/ scott. Baer are better in hardware. But my SSBC stops pretty damn well though. But SSBC looks and/or cheaply made.

billy you missed what i said. Those semi metallics wont squeak, i was comparing them to my ceramics which do squeak and creak. Get the ones from r1 they are a good product at a reasonable price.

There should be some 16s that fit. The STOCK 16s just don't fit. I've heard that stock W-Body 16s work.

most common brakes i hear people having on hear are the ones from PFYC and the R1 concepts.but i don't get why PFYC's are so $$$,rotors and pads from them are $460.98,and that's with the cheaper pad's.R1 Concepts lower end rotors and pads are $172.99,high end is $399.99 witch is still way cheaper than PFYC's.so are R1's crap,or is PFYC over priced.the only real difference i can see is that PFYC's are nickel over cadmium plating, and R1's is zinc plated.they both resist against rust.some input would be great before i buy.

Well, of all the mods I've done to my car over the last 7 (gasp!) years, my Baer brakes are still the best money I've spent. They were the best available at the time, and as far as bolt-on solutions go, they are arguably still the best option out there.
PFYC sells a kit with a lot of glitz over more function; i.e. the powdercoated calipers and the surface treatments on the rotors (slotted/drilled/zinc-washed). Then they throw in rear rotors which are "cosmetically-matched" to the fronts, but IMHO it's a waste of money.
By comparison, you should be able to get just the front "Track" kit from Baer for $750 or so, with 13" rotors (you can also opt for the "Sport" kit, with smaller 12" rotors for maginally less $). Sure you don't get all the fancy options, but it's all function....big discs, the same 2-piston calipers, the same pads, stainless lines and all the other hardware. If you want to glam 'em up, that's up to you and your checkbook.
Oh, and pads for the Baer kit can be had about anywhere....if you buy them through Baer, yes, they rip you off (they're good pads, but not that good), but you can find suitable replacements from about $50 on up.

Below: My Baer 13" Track kit with the 2-piece rotor option. I think Scot and I need to have a braking contest.:)

But idk, i have 900 in the bank, 400 for spending money. i was gonna use 500 of the 900 towards the tools for school, then i was gonna use the rest thats in the bank for w/e comes up....incase of an emergency or something. I am still looking at doing SOMETHING to my car, i might just go with new rotors and pads. thank you for the pics thoughm those look niiiiice
