let me just start off by thanking all the guys that have helped me with previous problems...lol i feel like i write something on this forum every couple of month...
ok here is another problem
the car start of very nice...once reaching operating temperature which is the middle or a little bit above the middle cause the aleros like it like that.
i feel a vibration though the steering wheel and the shifter..this happens only at idle while stoped at a red light or stop sign..while its moving it rides like a charm..the idle needle moves in small incriments so i cant realy say its a rough idle..i have changed the plugs and wires with some realy good oness...i cleaned out the throtle body and the MAF sensor.
my next step is going to be changing the transmision fluid and getting a new O2 sensor...before i do any of that i was just wondering if u guys have any idea of what it can be causing that. some one told me it can be a EGR sensor.
it has 75000 miles and its a 2001 3.4 alero

I think just about everybody has that problem here so if you get a good answer let me know cause I have the same problem, I put it in neutral at the redlight so it can stop shaking, but I think it does have something to do with the tranny, torque converter, or maybe even the balance shafts. But honestly Im unsure. Sorry cant help

Could be a broken vacuum line

if every one has the same problem some one must have fixed the problem some how...as for a vacum leak i checked for that already no vissible signs or hissing noises. also checked codes and nothing pops up....this thread should become a sticky or something some one gotta have an answer lol...keep the sugestions coming. thank you

Could it be some engine mounts issues?

if it runs just fine while it's driving it's probably a very minor issue
i bet you could straighten it out with a new fuel filter or fuel injector cleaner... also if you're in an area that has drastic climate changes some condensation remover for the gas tank wouldn't hurt it... and sometimes it's just gunk built up in the engine... fill it up with a tank of premium and take it for a few hundred miles on the highway
yeah yeah i know that's my solution for everything but i always like to start with the cheap repairs and work my way up

My uncles truck idles rough when its starting to need an oil change. I know it isnt an alero but it might as well be done anyways, wont hurt anything.
you said that you changed your plugs and wires, did you make sure you connected them correctly?

I've had only one 2.4 (quad) out of 4 or so that did not have this problem - the v6s don't seem to have this problem as much. There must be something in common that is causing the problem for all of us though.
It's a vibration when the car is in drive at a stoplight...

Yeah I am thinking firing order out of wack
and possibly the MAF prongs might be bent...I had one prong bent when I reconnected and the thing ran like a beastloud growl and real fast but maintained near 2000 rpm at stops.

1999 2.4 does the same annoying crap. I started thinking tranny mount since it only does it in forward gears. I can go into Nuetral, Park, and Reverse and it wont shake. As soon as I slip it into any forward gear it shifts a little rougher going into it and then shakes.
I am thinking the tranny mount is the one between the firewall & the engine, can anyone confirm this ?

There are, I think, at least 3 tranny mounts...

Before anyone starts throwing $$$ at there ride to figure it out. This is what I have changed, keep in mind I have not had a CEL come on since I bought my car:
* New AC Delco Double Plat plugs @ .50
* New AC Delco plug boots
* Coil cover
* Ignition module
* IAC
* Rear 02
* Fuel Filter
* Air Filter
* Changed Oil (Of course)
* Sea Foam treatment - Helped gas mileage nicley
I love my Alero and has been good to me but this issue has me wanting to trade the Biatch in.

i did everything now the only thing i didnt do is the EGR valve....i priced it out at almost 200 dollars...couldnt find anything cheaper...before i buy it can some of u tell me what an EGR valve realy does and how it can effect it if its stuck open or dirty...
i still think he probably put the plug in the wrong order and its misfiring

i agree....... double check that the wires are running to the correct plugs

if the plugs are in the wrong order, wouldn't it be more noticeable than just a little bit of rough idle??? I"m pretty sure the computer would signal a piston misfire....
