hey guys its me again, i was fixing my guage cluster because the needle on the thermostat gauge went above the pin point thing, when i turn my car one after im done working on everything i notice my "service engine soon" light came on so im thinking hmmm did i make it come on some thing, the last time it came on eas for about 1 minute and then it went away and that was last summer when i got my gasket changed due to our GM dex coolant plague lol but im jus about to hit 83,000 miles im due for an oil change in the next 100 miles im just curios what would make the light come on and if it comes on when a simple oil change is needed becase the car runs fine im pretty satisfied with my alero banger lol ive passed up new car deals for it i dont want it to die..

I know on the 2003 ho there's an actual change oil light on the dash and it doesn't trigger the service engine light. That's probably the only thing that doesn't make that light come on though.

just telling us that there is a service engine light wont do us anygood to help you with the problem. Thats like saying "my nuts are burning and scratching which disease do i have?" Go get the code scanned at a nearby advance auto, let us know what the code is and then we can help.

Hahaha... rich... from what you said though, I highly, HIGHLY doubt that messing with the needle would cause the light to come on at all. But, like Red said it, get the code, we'll take it from there...

Check the grounding wires.

Or check the ground terminal on the batt, maybe it's loose or it has the green stuff on it.
