Yeah, Bearings again...

Ok now my three lights come on as soon as I start the car. (SVS, ABS, Track off)

I'm not hearing any noise from any wheels and the car seems to be driving correctly. I know those 3 lights most likely means a bearing is going. Since I cant hear some rubbing noise from the bearing, could it be something else? Also, how can the 3 lights come on even if I haven't rolled an inch with the car? I thought maybe a sensor plug is loose on one of the wheels.

Any Ideas?

Also, what brand of hubs would you recommend? Is it hard to change?

I had the same problem...drove it for about a month before I heard any noise coming from the wheel (thats how I knew which one I had to replace) then I got it fixed.

As for the lights coming on without moving...here's my theory. I think that the ABS sensor is located on the wheel bearing assembly therfore when the bearing goes bad it affects the ABS sensor. once the sensor is bad the light will come on. track control needs the abs system to work so when the sensor goes bad it is disabled too. SVS light is there...I think just to remind you that you have other lights on;) and you need to check it out. I'm no mechanic but I think that's how it works.


If your ok with driving without abs of traction control for a while then I'd wait for the sound to be heard before changing the bearing. That way its easier to tell which is bad.

ya, I never go more then 6 months after replacing one before the lights come back on again. Good thing those hubs are under warrenty, replace them within' a year the new hub is free :). up here at canadian tire that is. I replaced one in the summer. Only made it a few months before the lights came back on. These hubs got to take the gold for biggest lemon part on these cars....lol I usually just drive it until it make noise.

Best adice in a while..

The sensor is in the wheel hub, it measures movement in the bearing.. desplacement, side to side..

when your car is still, you must be in the bad spot on the bearing, to trigger it.. You'll hear noise soon enough I bet..

Just replaced mine two weeks ago..


Drive it for a while... it'll start making noise in 2-4 weeks is my guess..

Question related to the wheel berrings, would bad/ old shocks with a good amount of miles on them probably 50k + cause these berrings to go bad? Since its recomended that you change your struts and nobody usually does would it result in the berrings to wear out faster?

Im ok on changing the bearing, but is there a particular brand I should get so it doesn't fail 6 months later lol

I got Timken Bearings for my alero. They are a well known brand for making bearings and have been around forever.

yeah ive had the same problem of the 3 lights (svs, anti-lock, trac off) but its been that way almost as long as ive owned it (bought it used in 04, its an 02) and there have never been any grinding noises as of yet. i can tell one set of the bearings have been replaced already before i bought it (lug bolts are a different color). the lights go off all the time in the winter and not always when its warmer. when the lights dont go off and when im driving they buzz until they do go off. i already took it to a shop and hooked it up to the computer and although the lights were on, the computer didnt show anything wrong.

so...1) if the bearings arent grinding
2) a computer doesnt show anything wrong

what the crap is wrong with it?

I was thinking the same thing as you sharpintofemo, until this last week. I took my car from indianapolis to kentucky and back in one day, and the very next day, my car started having the grinding noise. The 3 lights had come on and off for about four months previous and had done it for a long time. They actually hadn't come on about three weeks now, and now they are grinding. So, who knows with those lights. Im replacing my bearing next weekend because the grinding noise is just getting louder and more annoying as each day passes.

As for what brand, I have heard a lot of good things about Timken, so I purchased those. They are only 85.50 plus 5.50 shipping on ebay. So before you go to autozone or where ever around your parts, check on ebay. They were asking around 120 at autozone for the exact same thing.

You live in Montreal. The roads there are crap especialy this time of year. They use a pile of salt on the roads. I'd make sure the the wiring is not pinched and clean the connector. The roads being so rough probably doesn't help your bearing. There was a guy last year that sued the city over his rims and won.
