"01 Alero" The noise first started off only when I made a right turn...I would hear a clunk from the right rear wheel area of the car. I relpaced the latteral link & that did not solve it. I then replaced the upper strut mount (right rear) still the clunk! The car had 37,000 miles on it.I examined the strut...spring...& could not find anything wrong, also the stabilizer bar bushings, caliper, wheel bearing etc. seemed fine. Now the car has approx. 39,000 miles on it and when I go slow over bumps there is a rattling noise coming from the right rear wheel area that has been going on for a few months now. If I am at a regular speed...no noise.Checked strut, stabilizer bar, spare tire,trunk...and cannot pinpoint the problem! I had the car in for inspection & mentioned the problem & they could not find anything wrong..... Hopefully someone on this board experienced the same problem & can help Me with this mystery!!????

couldn't find the site but the back noise is the same as the front, I asked around and the noise you might be hearing is either your muffler holders are loose its bouncing and hitting the car, or again, your suspension, thats allI can do for ya bud :p

When i got my springs switched out they didnt tighten down tight enough and it rattled. About a month later my hanger for the muffler broke loose and it bumped against the car.
Does it sound like a rock in a can shaking around...

Yes,it kind of sounds like a rock in a can but not so tinney. I pulled the strut & replaced the upper mount & everything looked fine...spring,etc. The noise is coming from the passenger side rear...checked muffler & it was tight...DAMN Alero!!Kind of glad I am not the only one with this problem. I am going to call GM tomorrow & see if they know what it is.

Just called GM "not the dealership" and was given a case number & GM is going to contact the dealer from where I purchased My car "new" to set up a date for a free inspection and repair because of the cars low milage. I also asked for some obsolete promotional items for My GM cars & was connected to a Dept. & I will be receiveing a package in the mail soon!!! So....All and all... a good outcome!

Keychains, etc. Promo items that GM handed out to owners.Being that Olds is no more,,,That means Olds is obsolete & the reason i asked is to get some items before they are gone. I was told that many of the GM employees scarfed up a lot of stuff once Olds shut down.
