By "lock up" I think they mean the lock up tourque converter. I'm not sure what speed/rpm the converter is setup to engage. But it would cause the rpms to bounce if it engaging/disengaging. How much is the rpm bouncing around 2-300 or 1-1500?

Wait.. u used a brushed to clean the MAF? All you needed to do is spray on some carb cleaner (or electrical contact cleaner) on the sensors and done. Brushing them will damage it. But they do sell a MAF sensor cleaner spray now at autozone.
but as far as RPMS bouncing.. is the fuel filter been changed? injectors cleaned?

Could also be time for new plugs. My car acted that way when the #5 plug was fucked. It was a misfire!

The lock up converter is controlled by the computer. A tourque converter never transfers engine speed at 1:1. There is always a bit of a lose due to the hydralic coupling. The "lock up" feature turns the tranny input shaft at the same speed as the motor.
