First post, thanks for the info on fixing the resistor, but that sorta fixed my problem.

Car 01 Alero SL. (wife's car)

Her heater had been showing classic resistor signs (lost lower speeds). Then it quit completely. I fixed the resistor. And all the lower speeds worked, but High would not work. Hey no big deal I figure, and she agrees at least she has heat working. :coolio:

Works fine for two days, then one cold morning, nothing, no fan at all. I check yesterday and find the (#53??) 30A fuse blown for #1 heater. Fix fuse and it works fine the rest of the day. Well fine is not correct. I only have next to highest speed. No high and no lower speeds.

This morning (at 6 degrees F) it won't work again. Luckily I bought a whole fuse pack, replaced, but nothing, it worked for a second then quit. I imagine fuse blew.

Okay questions:
1) since after the fuse replacement originally worked it acted like resistor blew agian. What's up with that?

2) Is it possibly the blower motor itself that is bad? When I pulled out the cover panel I noticed that the panel had some water that had dripped out of the heater motor and there was a slight bit of rust from where the shaft of the blower motor met the backing material of the kick panel. I assume that there is a little moisture getting in there from the HVAC system - doesn't appear to be uncommon from other threads. Hers isn't bad enough to get the front carpet wet though.

yeah replace your blower motor i replaced a resistor chip in my my friends alero and it went out in less than a week. so i replaced the blower motor and the resitor and now its fine. check around on prices cause when she called around looking for a motor the prices were not even close to being the same, some places had it for 25 and the next 65, so call around for prices first

Up under passenger feet. There are several guides around. Simple to do really, you need to remove the trim panel and I ended up having to remove the blower motor to get the resistor back in, because it was longer than the original. Easier to remove it anyway, makes it easier to see. Just wish I woulda replaced it at the time.
