Can anyone tell me if someone makes an Oil filter for the 2.2 Ecotec that is designed for use with synthetic oil?

Thanks!

you dont have to use any specific filter for synthetic oil, i use fram religiously with my synthetic. it just depends on what brand you trust.

I'm sure other companies make it as well. Fram makes a filter designed for synthetics. You can feel the difference in wieght when you pick it up. Not sure what number filter the 2.2 uses but they had quite a selection of the synthetic filters. That was at Canadian Tire.

Those heavier filters are usually that way from a thicker metal casing. The Ecotec has a cartridge filter so that isn't even applicable.

Mobil 1 5w-30 with ACDelco PF-47 oil filter, works fine in my car for almost 4 years now.

PF-47 is the V6 size, don't know about the 2.2's size

Well thanks all for the replies guys, but as Cliff pointed out, the ecotec uses a cartridge filter. There's a cap on the block that I unscrew and the filter is attached to it. Its like the inside of a filter without the casing around the outside. The filter is made in Germany.

If the ecotec used a regular filter I would have bought a K&N already cause it would probably use the HP1001 like some of the other GM motors.

The thing I find odd, is I have to buy a duralast filter for my ecotec. ACDelco does not even have one listed for there own engine. :rolleyes2:

They do, PF457G is the filter only and PF2259G is the filter and the black cap as an assembly. It's just that neither of those filters are in Autozone's product line.

There's also a PF456G but I suspect its an older filter. I got one from the dealer the other day.

Yes, they redesigned the oil filter for the Ecotec within the last year or so.
