Installed the PCM, started on first try, Service Engine Soon, of course. Took to a mechanic to clear the code. Told him it WOULD be a crankcase relearn, says he could not remove the code because it had something to do with the ignition coils, when I clearly saw his LCD read P1336. Has anyone had a problem with the code not removing, did the mechanic just not know what he was doing? Oh yeah, and just to connect the reader and scan (rather the code was removed or not) cost me 20 bux. So another choice is did i just get ripped off?
Took the interstate home, got to an open stretch and it got up to 112, which was a first. While waiting to turn from my exit, I revved the engine but still stopped at 3000 RPMs. Do some of the modifications work even with the code being on? And since the relearn didn't take and the timing is the same, do I need to go ahead and fill the tank with premium or wait til it's actually removed?

seems the mech didnt know what he was doing. did he look up the code in the computer or just tell you off the top of his head? also, you cant clear the code without doing the relearn. the DTC has to be set for the process to work.
i would fill up with premium now if i were you. however, i did drive my car with DHP 1.0 for many months on 91 with no issues. why would you want to sit there and rev your engine?

he was checking the removed rev limiter. Take it to a different mech for the case learn. That dude obviously didnt know jack or didnt want to do the job.

oh, i stand corrected. Then thats probably why it didnt work for him.
when u drive your car, try to merge on the parkway while flooring it or something and see if ur car shifts at 6k RPMs, you should be able to tell the difference in the sound if youve had your car for a while..i know i did

you are asking the wrong people. we all have 3400's, not ecotec's.

removing the speed limiter is one thing, but the rev limiter should never be removed. That's what keeps dingle-berries from blowing their engines up reving in park or neutral (it's happened, and that's why the limiter is there)

Agreed, ive heard of that happening, my cousin blew up his 2.4 Alero by deciding to see how long it would go in 2nd gear...on an auto trans.
I also just installed the PCM on my 3400 tho, and it removes the speed limiter....tested at 110mph... and changed my shift point to just under 6000. The rev limiter remains too.
Only thing is my car didnt throw any codes and the check engine light didnt come on. I did the security relearn, took one try...maybe i dont need a CASE learn too yay!
the car should shift at 6k RPMs with the new chip, it only shifts at around 5.7k RPMs with the stocker

thats no longer a feature of the 1.0 file.
I don't see how come. My instructions:
1. Set E-Brake
2. Place car in Park/Neutral
3. Turn engine on
4. Rev to 3000 RPMs
5. Let Idle for 5 secs
6. Rev to 5500-6000 RPMs
7. Let Idle for 5 secs
8. Install complete
Are my instructions obsolete?

No, it actually showed P1336 on his handheld. So like u said, he's either in-experienced or jerking me around

I'm just gonna buy my own Tech II this weekend (which is what I should have done in the first place) and see what I can come up with

FEATURES:
Speed limiter removed
3-1 and 4-2 skip shifts
Transmission line pressure increased
Shift points moved (5800-6000rpms) <--- This is from pfyc.comWell, I went out today and bought a scanner from Pep Boys. It found the code and gave the option to erase. All it did was make the SES blink off and come right back which is what it did for the mechanic the other day.
So I guess I'll just bite the bullet and take it to the dealership (**deep sigh** finding nothing but lint in my pocket). Other than that, it shifts better, runs cooler, and the speed limiter is removed, but I have no power on the top end and it moves like a snail after 110. And scared to push it because since the crankcase has not been relearned, that means it's still sending stock spark and fuel enrichment and I'm guessing the relearn has to be done before it's running at full efficiency......right?

keep in mind it is a lightly modded 3400, its not gonna run like a raped ape past 100 anyways. Do the crank learn just in case and use the shift points or the removed limiter to verify that the pcm is working. Them enjoy it. I was super happy with mine when i had it, til it got heavily modified, the pcm that is. Now it rocks.

Well, took my car to the dealership........................................ ..................and they removed the code. I'll leave it at that (coins rattling in pocket). Hell of a lot more low-end power. And you're right about lightly modded. Took me 6 years to get around to a WAI, Taylor Wires, PowerTech Thermo, and PCM. I figured I should be boosted in about 20-25 years, give or take......lol. Thanx alot for the info, guys. Don't know what I would have done without this site
