exhaust size

What size is the exhaust on the alero? Looking to get a flowmaster 80 muffler, or whats the part number?

WOW your's was huge. mine was only 1 7/8" ID stock hmmmm...

I'm pretty sure all alero's (V6 or i4) come with 1 7.8" stock exhaust diameter. And if you have the V6 a 2.5" exhaust is the best way to go

stock exaust is just 2' and the part you nedd the number is 42583 for the flowmaster I suggest Jegs.com for this part payed 98.99 total with shipping to Canada so if you live in the states it should even be cheaper

Umm, you don't go slower, maybe on the bottom end, yes, but not on the top end. It just reduces the bottom end because it gets rid of the backpressure that causes torque. Put a big exhaust on, you will gain quite a bit on the top end.

i got 2.5 pipes made from the cat-back with no resonator and a dynomax camaro muffler and had a noticeable power and quarter mile difference

Umm well I was running straight header (long story) and had NOOO power even as high as 3500 RPMs in first or second, let the clutch out at ~3K, so too little back pressure will make you slower, in the sense that you will accelerate MUCH more slowly.

yeah uh i ordered the 60 series muffler from flowmaster and its a 2.25 and i havent installed it cause im still not even sure if it even fits.... and from what you guys are saying i dotn wanna loos acceleration :( i wanna gain :angry: , oh well i guess im screwed, so i'll have to put a CAI to make up for it eh?

less backpressure means less torque.

so this means........with not enough backpressure you have higher hp but slow ET in the 1/4

it's all about the 60ft mark and getting out of the hole.

But our exhaust is restrictive from the factory, if you go TOO big you'll lose torque if your engine isnt tuned properly, but a 2.5" exhaust isnt too big for the V6 so you won't really lose any noticeable low end power.. christ you make it sound like if he gets anything bigger than a 2" exhaust his acceleration will be cut in half.

i wasn't saying that. just explaining crap to you youngins


2 1/4" would work good. i think 2 1/2" would be the best.

but if you went 3" and above on n/a then that is too big
