Ok so i searched and nobody is giving any info i need.
First off i want to know which one sounds better? I hear people say Borla is too low....but can u still hear a nice sound????
Second with the SLP people say it sounds like ass after they have it for a while. I DONT WANT MY CAR TO SOUND LIKE A CIVIC, so should i just stick with borla??????
Will i notice a difference with the borla? i only have a CAI right now, but in about 2 months i plan on getting headers from S&S.
So is borla worth the money? and does it really sound that low that you can barely tell you have an aftermarket exhaust??? i want a nice low but noticeable(dont know if i spelt it right) exhaust.
Ok and i did look up the exhaust cut outs and i think i might have an idea of what to do, but i have a question, should i just put the exhaust(when i get it) up to the bumper so i can see where to make the cut????
Thanks a lot everyone for reading the long ass thread, and some of you are probably annoyed cause these questions are always askedlol

do a custom bent at a local shop with a flowmaster delta or super 40 or 80 if you want duals. Bout half the cost of either of the systems you named but just as effective.

ya, neither. do wut alerored04 said. you can also fit dual 40s at the right shop.

Well people say that the bends the shops make arent smooth in the inside, so it doesnt flow as well. I was thinkin about a local shop but then those people said that and i decided to go with borla or slp.
So if i do go to a local shop i should buy a high flow cat and bring that with me to the shop and tell them to put that on and take our the resinator. thats if people have some evidence that the bends are smooth from a local shoplol

mandrel bends are the equivalent of maybe 1hp. not worth the price IMO.

agreed
did the research myself came to the same thing. just get a local shop to custom bend the pipes man, save ya a shit load in the end, take the money you saved and spend it on other mods ^_^

Alright guys, thanks for the info, and lookin out for my money situation instead of just ignoring this thread and letting me spend about $400 more. So this means i wont have to get dual outlets right??? they will do just one pipe out the back..... how much HP can i look at gaining with the custom exhaust?
jackal2000
10-12-2006, 10:40 AM
depends on the size of the pipe you get...
billytheman1188
10-12-2006, 10:46 AM
Well what would u recommend??? is it 2.25 inch that everyone says??(or is that the stock size?)
jackal2000
10-12-2006, 11:01 AM
im running 2.25 (stock is 2 IIRC) right now but i might upgrade to 2.5 soon. i'll make it a point to get dyno numbers to show the difference between the 2. the only reason i have 2.25 is because the exhaust guy wouldnt go any bigger. now im in a different and found a better exhaust guy haha
billytheman1188
10-12-2006, 11:03 AM
So i should go with 2.5? now i know not to go bigger, cause if u go bigger u will lose something right??? lol i cant remember what people said, but i deff shouldnt go bigger than 2.5 right?

10-12-2006, 11:04 AM
Oh and the exhaust from a shop around here will sound good right??? when i say good i mean a deep sound.
Cause my friend has a 98 sentra and got an exhaust made at the shop im thinkin about going to and it sounds like the typical ricerlol
jackal2000
10-12-2006, 11:07 AM
get a flowmaster 40. bigger than 2.5 and you lose power. our engines thrive from back pressure.
Satsuriku
10-12-2006, 11:36 AM
2.5" should be the MAX you should go but you should also have that backed up with a CAI or WAI for better flow. over all, your MAYBE getting 7hp and with the CAI or WAI (opps, sorry just saw you already have one), possibly 10hp (correct me if im wrong guys, thats just based on the reseach ive done)

I have SLP because I didnt want to pay the extra for the borla. I love the way mine sounds and my CAI is coming today so it will sound even better.
But do what ^^they said get a flowmaster. 2.25 or 2.5
Satsuriku

even magnaflow will do just as nicely

depends how many more mods you plan on doing, i saw in your other thread that you want headers so i would do 2.5". Dont waste the money on a high flow cat right now, they can delete the resonator without installing a high flow. Also there are three ways to bend exhaust pipe, crush bent, which leaves the little ridges, press bent, which is smooth but ovals out around bends, and mandrel bent which is perfectly round and smooth around bends, the shop that did mine had a press bender, just ask what kind of bending the shop does. Press bent and mandrel bent are the same for all intensive purposes. And the sound of the exhaust depends on the motor and the muffler not the piping for the most part, your friends sentra sounds like rice cause it is, if you dont want that sound do like everyone said and get a flowmaster delta or super 40, those are single in and out so you would keep the same layout as stock. Or a delta 80 is a single in dual out for dual tips.

You would really have a hard time making a 3400 sound like a 4-cylinder. There are TONS of muffler options out there that will suit your application and will perform better than the stock. For a custom made system, the magnaflow fits under the rear end nicely just like the stock muffler and has proven to have a good sound (like most any open high-flow muffler). I wouldn't recommend a flowmaster, but that's just personal preference. I don't really like chambered mufflers.

Now sporting SLP pipes with a Flowmaster 80, and let's not forget those S&S headers :coolio:

I have stage 3 CAI and SLP on the V6 and I've had it for over a year and still LOVE IT!!! It doesn't sound like a ricer, it sounds like it has some muscle specially at idle. I've heard a clip of the borla and thought it sounded better but that is just my opinion.

^ Yeah but it's only been on a year, after 2 years it will sound ricey starting around 2500 to 2700 RPM's.
That's how long mine took

Hold on so im lost, only cause u told me not to get a highflow cat, but then u told me to get a flowmaster delta or super 40. lol, so i should get a highflow cat???? and i need to get a muffler.....hmm i will look up some mufflers now and paste a link and see if everyone thinks it will be good.

How about the second muffler on that page??? There are 4 diff ones but i dont really know which one to pick. I dont know where else to look for mufflers though, so if people wanna tell me a site i can get a good sounding one off of then go aheadlol

dont get that hks one, thats a rice cannon and will make your car sound like a piece of crap. Order a muffler through the shop that you will have do the piping. They might even have them on hand. Just give them a call or stop by and get the ideas across about what you want and they will get you all setup. Now as to why i said not to do a highflow cat at this point you dont need one, you are not flowing enough to justify it plus when you get headers they will then need to fab a downpipe anyway. If the cat goes on first they will have to im pretty sure make a downpipe for it with the stock exhaust manifolds, so you will be paying to have the same part fabbed twice. Plus if you get a highflow most dont have an 02 sensor bung so you either need an o2 simulator or to have a bung welded in. A hf cat is not worth all that cash since you won't even notice the performance gains from it. Alero cats flow just fine.
and why did me telling you not to get a hf cat and then saying to get a flowmaster confuse you? Seems like a logical statement to me.
And i just looked at the price for those hks mufflers DAMN!!! please tell me you werent actually gonna pay $300 for a muffler.

dude just go to the shop and have them order your muffler or go straight to the flowmaster or magnaflow website. i mean damn its not rocket science. You want to upgrade your cat? go for it. you wont notice much. you want bigger pipes? go for it..you wont notice much. all you will truly get out of an exhaust system and cai is a better sound and mild gains in horse. point being, just having your resonator taken out and a magnaflow or flowmaster muffler will give you good sound. and to be scared your car will sound like a 4cyl. is pretty ridiculous. you own a 6 cylinder. worst case scenario and you bought some no name crappy muffler your car would sound like a 1990 pontiac 6000SE or if thats not something you've heard, think along the lines of a chevy lumina in need of a new muffler.

just two examples that i did a quick search on that should fit your car. A right side muffler for a C5 corvette should work as well.

Thanks for the help man, yea im pretty sure the place i will be going sells mufflers and i will ask for help with a good setup there. So let me j;) ust make sure, i should get 2.5 inch right???
Oh and i dont know what i was thinking when i thought u said not to get a high flow cat and then u did say itlol Im an idiot;) And i wasnt planning on getting that HKS one, lol $300 is a lot for a muffler, but i was just checking out mufflers.
But thanks everyone for the input on my exhaust.
And once again if people forgot, i should 2.5 inch piping right? that will work good with the headers i will be getting in a few months right? lol

2.25" or 2.5"
its up to you at that point, just dont go any bigger then 2.5" unless your gonna do some hardcore modding and tuning!
billytheman1188

I will probably end up doing 2.5,
I plan on putting S&S headers in my car, along with a DHP and a bigger Throttle Body.
I already have the stage 3 CAI and i will be getting the exhaust soon, probably within the next month.

well a little update on my situation.
I went to a place and asked if they did exhaust, and he said yes he does. So then i start asking how much it will cost for a complete exhaust system thats 2.5 inches.
He says "oh well we dont do complete exhaust systems, we only do mufflers"
and i said "oh ok, cause i wanted the whole system"
he says "well you get most of the performance out of the muffler, a complete system doesnt really matter"
so then i say "but i want to get headers too, and people told me i should get bigger pipes to handle more power. I guess i will just have to go online and get an exhaust"
he says "yea thats probably your best bet, you can come back here and i will put it on for you"
LOL, like im gonna get an exhaust and then bring it to this place where they charge me $100 to install an exhaust, when my step dad can do it himself. Ive decided my next car will be a dakota 8 cylinder, 2005.lol thats what my step dad has and he put a gibson exhaust on it and it sounds NIIIICCCEEEEE.
I just hope my alero sounds nice too:coolio: Oh yea and i meant to ask....how big is the piping on the Borla????? is it 2.5 inch?
