Hi peeps, so I'm looking for a good amp while working with a limited budget and I found the Sony Xplod xm-D1000P5. The thing is that Sony doesn't make that amp for the US. They sell it in the UK/Middle East. My concern is that the circuitry is somewhat different cause it's' not made for the US and that I will have to spend more money on voltage adapters or whatever. (I think the amp needs 14.4v powering it. Don't our cars use 12v batteries?) Should I be concerned? What do you think? If this sounds like a stupid question, my bad, I'm just learning the ropes.

all amps have ratings for 14.4 volts, not just UK amps, unless they use different batteries in europe youre not going to have a problem with this...powering this is not an issue

Excellent. That's the answer I was looking for. Gonna order so I can install this weekend. Thanks for the advice.

Your battery is 12v; but when your engine is running your alternator puts out 14.4 volts. That is why the amp rates its power at 14.4v. If you run your system with your engine off, then the amp will be getting 12v from the battery; all this means is the amp will be putting out slightly less power.

how much are you paying for that amp???? You might be able to find another amp made a little better and sound a lot better. Just an Idea. To look around and shop.

I ended up getting the amp on Ebay for $135. I don't think it was a bad price for the power I got. I finally finished installing the system this past weekend and honestly, I'm quite pleased with the performance of the 10" solobaric L7 being powered by this amp. FYI, I think I'm getting addicted to working on the car's audio. Next step, getting rid of the rattle. I thought I was happy, and then I closed the trunk.

Personally I have nothing good to say about Sony Explode anything. Well at least their subs, my brother-in-law blew 5 explode 12's with a punch 100.

I really like Sony head units and crossovers, their components and 6X9's are decent too, but yeah for amps and subs I'd go for a more serious brand.

Thus far I'm satisfied with Sony's amp. I guess ignorance is bliss. Not but seriously, I paid about $170 for the amp including shipping and handling. I think I got decent power for the price I paid. I comparison shopped with amps over at Best Buy and Sound Advice, and their amps that were putting out 300 or 400 watts at 2 ohms were running for $250 and above. Since the trunk rattles, and I think I'm losing my hearing, I'm running the amp at low levels and the sound quality seems decent enough. But what do I know, Like I said, I think I'm losing my hearing... Ah yes, that plus ignorance... I'm in bliss baby, YEAH!

sony amps do not produce what they say they are rated for......You would have been better off spending a little more $$$ to get a better amp.....
