I'm about to be de-throned, but of course you cannot claim fastest NA Alero, due to a few assholes on this site.
But yes 13.99 or faster is a possiblly with that set-up and you will be the Fastest known NA alero

i'll prolly still get the rods and tranny mount from milzy but that might be it. i talked to the guy today and he isnt sure about the cam regrind so again, might have to shell out the cash for milzy's stage 2.
other shiiite im getting...
headers - s&s or supposedly pacesetter makes 3400 ones now
pistons - ross

er....just a thought....if you're wanting to break 13.9, you might want to look into getting that tranny built and get some drag slicks, or else you'll more likely be breaking your drivetrain. Some of the biggest names in N-body drag racing can't break under high 13's because of traction and transmission issues. But, if you hit the 13's, I'll be happy for ya :scpimp:

The install is the best part, make sure to take alot of pics because after all the work you will want to show them off.
It sucks that MMS stage 2 heads heads cost $1,200 and yet still are outflowed by Stock 3500 heads till 0.450" lift.

Looking good bro, now remember, the pushrods are two different lengths, the short ones are intake, the long ones are exhaust. You definitely dont wanna get them mixed up with that much money at stake :)
When you get a chance, lets see a shot of the port work ! I bet they'll make some really good power.

When installing everything, I recommend installing the plugs and attaching the headers onto the heads before installing the heads onto the engine. Also you might want to consider using locking header bolts such as Stage 8 or Breslin and applying copper rtv to all of the exhaust gaskets.
Will you be welding the down pipe yourself or taking it to a shop? I welded mine and then found out about 3 months later that the stock cat was clogged from what appeared to be the coating from the TOG headers, so I had to remove it and do it all over again.
Like BlackJack said, when you get a chance try to get some close up pics of the porting work.
jackal2000
09-15-2006, 07:10 PM
im not doing any part of this install. i have neither the tools, place to work or the time to do it. i will however, take all the suggestions i get to the shop when i drop it off.
about the pics of the porting, i tried last night and they came out crappy. i gotta play with the camera settings.

You might also want to pick up a set of Phenolic spacers
http://60degreev6.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=51
I would also consider a larger TB there is only so much that a stock port matched TB can do.

I just did my head transplant, and it went together nice and easy heads first then headers, then sparkplugs, might be different for your headers however. The phenolic spacers are definitely a plus though....intake temps will drop quite a bit.

3500 heads will bolt on with out any issue?, or do you need the 3500 top end as well?
looking good john...ken will have some competition next year at ASS

Yeah your turbo headers are alot different of a design than the TOG's. Not saying that there is a right or wrong way to install them, just installing the headers on to the heads before hand made it easier for me because I used Breslin locking bolts and had everything torqued to spec before bolting the heads down. (Saved me from leaning over the engine bay and fumbling around to tighten everything on the rear bank, as I didn't remove the engine from the car to do the install)

Yes, the non VVT 3500 heads bolt to the 3400 block, however you must use the 3500 LIM as it has a lightly different angle than the 3400 LIM. You can either use the 3500 Plenum with a TB adapter plate from the 60*V6 store or you can use the 3400 plenum either will work.
I personally like the 3500 heads, as I feel they flow better than the MMS stage 2 heads. Most expierenced engine builders and head porters will tell you that low lift #'s are more important than higher lift flow #'s. I have read numerous articles and information on the subject and most of them all come back to the importance of flow at lower lifts.
Stock 3500 Heads Vs MMS Stage 2 Heads: (intake data)
.200" lift: Stock 3500 heads outflow the MMS Stage 2 heads by 21%
.300" lift: Stock 3500 heads outflow the MMS Stage 2 heads by 15%
.400" lift: Stock 3500 heads outflow the MMS Stage 2 heads by 3%
.450" lift: MMS Stage 2 heads outflow the Stock 3500 heads by 3%
.500" lift: MMS Stage 2 heads outflow the Stock 3500 heads by 9%
.550" lift: MMS Stage 2 heads outflow the Stock 3500 heads by 11%
I rest my case.

i am looking at finding a set of 3500 heads, and lim, and using my 3400 upper since i have 2 and just polished one up. i also have an extra set of 3400 heads that i plan on pocket porting and selling to fund the 3500 heads

well, the motor is completely torn down to the block. cylinder one is totally fucked up. they didnt find the piston ring  im not that surprised though lol
mech said the bearings all need replaced and they are going to hone the block. i didnt expect them to start working on it til monday so this is awesome that they got to it. he said it was a good thing that i bought those new heads cause there is a bunch of build up and the valve seals are messed up too. im going to the shop this afternoon to take some pics. i'll start a new thread when i get those....

hey man, just a thought, but while they have it torn down for cylinder hone, why not get the block line-bored on the cam/crank journals? Just makes it that much faster.

i have no idea what that means but i will bring it up to them as if i know all about it lol

09-21-2006, 11:41 PM
ok, basic idea is they take a "drill" so to speak, and run it longways through the block with the main caps bolted on, and also run it through the cam journals. This ensures that all your bearing surfaces are perfectly aligned reducing drag on rotational mass. You'll be capable of running a little higher RPM's without as much vibration also.
